8 Under $8,000 - Cheap Sports Car Showdown (Part 1) | Everyday Driver

Being a car enthusiast of most of my life of 60 years and being poor or hand to mouth much of the time, affordability of keeping drivable has always been a key factor in my sportscar and street rod purchases. EverydayDriver rarely comments on that aspect. I have owned, for short periods of time, affordable to purchase European cars such as MGB, BMW, Jaguar, Mercedes Benz, etc. There are a few exceptions but in general you better have money to burn or be a mechanic to keep "Euro-cars" on the road. I mean they are bigger money eaters than boats. Get a Japanese or American made rwd car unless you just like looking at your car or it doesn't bother you spending $3k to use your convertible top again. Of course, that is what old consumer reports magazines are for. Your videos are the only ones I actually watch all of. Great job!!!

it sux how cheap you can get cars like this in the U.S. these are all over $20,000 AUD cars in Australia. when it comes to looks, the Z3 coupe/convertible top up, looks like a clown shoe!

I grew up with my Dad having a 996, and he kept it long enough for me to learn stick on it. Loved that car to death and always thought the 986 was a superb car as well.
It might be nostalgia, but I love so much about the styling of this car that others hate.
My daily is a 335i e93 and I’m very blessed to drive that, but I’d love to add a 986 as a weekend thrasher

There was a kit that you could purchase where you could drop a GM- LS-2 into a Miata. I think that would be exactly what I would want.

I LIKE driving a Miata, precisely because it is ubiquitous. I know that no matter how long I drive her, she will always be a cheap (but fun) date! A Miata really is what most of us really want!

The Miata is, still, the best car here… It handles best AND it may be the most reliable, pretty and cheap. What more is there?

Why limit the challenge to cars less than 25 years old? The Miata for example is older than that! MY Miata is older than that!

honestly, best video on the internet! Especially, when the onle Long haired dude drives a z4, which i am looking at currently and wants a mr2, i think the z3 is the exact sweet spot of those 2.
Has more feeling (steering and shifting) than a z4 and has got the cool and special looks.
I find the mr2 charming in its cheap ways but in this comparison its just the steering that strikes the most.
Not the power, not the sound, not the looks, not the space (no Luggage area!). And as a second car which is in contrast to a modern company car i drive, ths seems like to less to serve.
So i will focus from the Z4 to the Z3.

I always thought those boxsters look like goofy cartoon snakes from the front. And a block of wood from the side. I like them much better with the top down. They're still interesting to me for the money, but I think they look ridiculously goofy.

Well, so much for any hope now. I got rear ended and now I'm in too much pain to drive much at all. My 2011 Crown Vic is dead and my spine is so much worse that I know I'll never get to enjoy driving again. It just hurt too much, even in the Ford Flex I got because it was the only thing that I could drive. Little sport cars would kill me. I never got to experience what driving one would feel like... Remember kids, if you think its as bad as it can get, you are so wrong... If it can get worse, it will. (at least that is how my life has been)

Guys- loved the show! Do yourselves a favor and drive MY Solstice. It's a GXP (essential) with a few extra tweaks, and it's ultra-large fun. Btw, the Miata also moves into another category with supercharging. Oh my, fun with mods! Not under 8K, but can we look in the 12-15 range? Still very affordable considering what you get.

How come we’re not comparing it to real America’s sports car under that price I have a Saturn sky roadster or the Pontiac GXP both are in this class. Both could be had an excellent condition for under $8000 and many ways will blow the doors off of Miata.

Sorry guys ALL the cars presented here are ugly in my eyes, especially the Z4, the Z1 yes sure... but Z3 and Z4 yack!!! The SLK is aa girl's car... the rest are tasteless too. I would prefer a regular modest car than any of those.

Should've done the 3rd gen miata or nc. Much better comparison. More room and for 6-7k for one.

IMO, 25 years from now, collectors will want the Z3 more than the Z4.
