I'm going to turn 38 soon. Played WoW since Day 2 EU. Since then I had many breaks to avoid burnout or was quitting. I didn't mean to come back to WoW - ever. I did like 17 days ago after quitting like a third into shadowlands, right about after doing Nathria. I haven't missed WoW at all - got plenty of hobbies, good job, wife etc. Recently I spoke with my friend and was like "dude, we always sued to watch blizzcon together, how about we do it for fun?". We did and were like "screw it, lets try it, casual mode, full chill." It works, it gives fun. I do things at my own pace now. Don't have to Raid Lead, don't have to progess. Zero pressure, and I found enjoyement in other areas. Back when I started I was very hardcore player, like 10-12h daily 7 days a week. Now not only I wouldn't be able to maintain it, but I don't have to and don't want to. I raided casually already for the last 2-3 expansions and frankly, that's good and fun enough :)

Enjoy little things, at your pace ;)

The thing that makes you "Real" in a world full of phoneys is how you avoid lables but stand by your perspective. I once heard you mention, "If someone doesn't like my opinion I just shout it louder and more often!" We really need to dump the labels and get back to conversation.

Gamer since 1992, gaming is my lifestyle. I balance real life and gaming and even though I have lot of free time so I game a lot, I never struggle. It is a hobby just like any else. Hobbies like watching TV, watching or doing sports, listening to music etc, gaming is no different, it is a nice way to enjoy something. Remember, time you enjoy wasting is not wasted :)

This happened to me too - WoW, same as you. I was in my mid-20's and I think Wrath of the Lich King had just come out. My relationship at the time as failing due to my WoW addiction and due to the economic crisis at the time, I lost my job. Rather than focus on getting my life back on track, I distracted myself from my issues with WoW, which of course made things much worse. I left WoW shortly after - my moment of reckoning was when I was INSTRUCTED by my guild leader that I NEEDED to be online at certain times etc for raids, meanwhile my partner was struggling with the bills and to put food on the table. I had nothing to show for my time in WoW except for the ruin of my life - I didn't even enjoy playing anymore. The worst part was the void it seemed to leave in my life after I left - I didn't know what to do with myself and I became depressed. Eventually, of course, I moved onto other things. This period is still a painful memory for me to this day, 15 or so years later but I learned a valuable lesson. Luckily MMOs are pretty much a thing of the past - they were the worst for it.

The hype for new games didn't go anywhere. New games just suck nowadays. That's why a game like Rogue Trader or Baulder's Gate 3 still is awesome when it releases.

Yes, there are good jobs.

I work in IT and I love it. I sometimes install network equipment in new buildings, sometimes setup new restraunts, sometimes I troubleshoot servers not working right.

Not all jobs are bad, you need to find one that suits your strengths and find people like yourself.

Look degrees are good but here is the issue.

I have looked at people we hire and look at who we should hire and talk to, interview etc.

If I see you have a masters and no job in the field for 8 years after you graduated...
We are passing you up... Sorry it is what have you been doing and can you actually handle the stress of work etc?

If I see a bachelor degree in same thing, but you got out of school and got 6 years of experience in the field actually working, I will interview them because they have book knowledge and real life experience.

I'm just saying, having a masters and have NEVER used it, is not a good thing, and especially not a bragging point...

Yea after a certain age you start to notice friends moving on and building lives. Buying homes, starting a family and pursuing careers. You start to feel left behind. All the sudden gaming just doesn’t matter. At least that was me. First year as an electrician apprentice down woo. But I’m still behind. I’m broke and single. Wish I’d have started sooner but at least I’ve started ya know.

I started learning IT Networking, and then I purchased a HP Server for $900. I kept learning the concepts and fundamentals of networking and then building real world network lab emulations on it and it kinda became like gaming for me. There was a challenge and an end goal but there was also the physical grind rather than just reading or studying.

Id suggest if anyone is addicted to gaming like I was and needs a change, look into IT, Networking, Cyber Security and Hacking. (And btw, there are many competitive hacking games and tournaments you can play at home against real players)

I will be wasting my time with games when I'm 50. That's a bit over 3 years from now.
I could also stop and just wait for someone special to enter my life, watch the empty walls of my life, listen to the life around me that I am not part of. Well, I leave that for someone else.

I am disabled and gaming is the only social life I have. I was never into gaming before my injury. Gaming has given me life in a way. I never understood why people game so much. I always considered it a waste of time, but now I know. Just don’t let it consume you and if you are an able body, try to live life to its fullest. Some people play because it doesn’t require you to go out and spend a lot of money for a good time. If gaming in your free time prevents you from going out to bars and drinking and wasting money or a potential DWI or worse, then play on but find a balance in life. Don’t ignore your loved one and remember to tell someone you love them today ❤ always try to make time to figure out life and try new things. Work hard play hard. Try to start that online store you have been dreaming of.

I always kind of balanced gaming a lot and still working and doing fairly ok but only 1 year ago I completely quit and now I’m having a lot of success in life.
Working 6 or 7 days a week and studying, my goals are to drive a very expensive car and buy another house.
It’s making me happier as I’m able to really grow my savings quickly these days and also keep the house super clean.

Having a masters and knowing three languages is great but he is 33 with zero job experience.
So he has to do some low stuff for at least three years so he can at least put some experience on his CV.

being told that "if you do what you love you won't feel like you are working a day on your life" is one of the biggest scams and lies in life. The first time getting hit by that, the reality check that it provides, it is always heartbraking. No matter the passion, when turned into a chore, it will destroy you every single time. Imagine spontaneously getting laid with a girl. Now imagine having to do that day in and day out, no matter what and how you feel. It will get to you eventually and become boring and irritating, like bitch leave me the fuck alone I wanna do something different right now. That's how life is.

I hope my pc friends are seeing this :( I had to overcome this "gaming" lifestyle because we need money in my household, so I cut "early" like 19year-old. It was the best thing I did in my life.

I have 29year-old friends playing 8+ hours a day with no job, fully depressed... Idk...
