im an "ECD guy" i have a pretty good collection of things like flashlights, knives, pistols, ect.
knives designed only for self defense are scams, almost any pocket knife is better in every way.
the knife in the video is particularly bad. if you want to train with a knife then get a trainer but this kit is not it.

It's well designed, but for people like me who hate having a belt, who wear suspenders, to store the knife you have to go through a case with a clip.
One of the best knives I've used for defense is the "KA-BAR TDI Investigator". Its angle allows for an ergonomic and very natural grip. Its large handle also allows it to be held well in your hand. But it's not the most discreet of knives compared to the one in the video.
But they all have a flaw, I think that an attack or defense knife must have a double-edged blade. In a moment of stress, you are certain that no matter which side you use, it will cut.
For the grip, there are several solutions. But what I like the most is a simple dagger with a hole to put a finger through to make sure you hold the knife even if you open your hands.
Otherwise there is one that I also like a lot and that I sometimes carry, it is the "Bestech Strelit". A mix of folding push-dagger with a claw-shaped blade. It is instinctive during a fight, with it you slice your enemy in all directions like an angry tiger, it is very violent and bloody. It is not made to penetrate the body, but just to make very deep cuts to make the internal organs fall to the ground.
I think that the perfect combat knife does not exist, or it must be adapted to each person according to what they like. But only one knife for the whole world, no, there will always be people who will not like something.

In the early to mid 1990s, this knife would be $2.99 in the gas station. Sold in a big plastic container by the register that is full of these knives.

If you could check out the cold steel spartan knife, crkt karambit provoke or the high desert journey man karambit I’d be very interested to see how they stack up against the skallywag. I have all three except the high desert karambit journey and I bought the skallywag before it came out because of you.

The beginning of the video is questionable. Someone is grappling you. You say you aren't supposed to let them know you have a knife. This could lead to trouble in the court room I think. I could be wrong

This video was stupid AF i know you're being paid by them which you should have said by the way it would have made your video less unsufferable, this shit is 150$ mister fancy pants, and have nothing better to offer than a cold steel push dagger for a third of the price or any pocket knife or dagger you can easily reach for that matter, i have a stainless steel diving dagger i always carry even when i go to the gym if i can do all the exercises known on this planet with weights and not be bothered by it and still having it as a fast deployement tool don't you think i don't give 2 shits about your overpriced B.S ? You used to be a lot more interesting than that, do better.

Hi Mike,
I would never argue with you about hand-to-face combat, but regarding knives, there seem to be a couple of issues here.

1. My fiancé is an ER doc. I just showed her this video, and she says the whole triangular blade thing is a gimmick. Says the wound will still close up, same as if it was made with a normal blade. For a triangular cross section knife to make a hole that doesn't close up as fast, it has to be much much bigger (wider). Furthermore, if you're trying to stop a wound from bleeding, you don't count on the hole to close up because the shape of the knife allowed for it. Regardless of the shape of the hole, you want to stuff something (even if it's your shirt) into it if you can, and apply pressure. The belief that triangular knives make deadlier holes goes back to triangular bayonets, which were not only much wider, but also were used at a time when surgical procedures were shitty (it WAS harder to stich up triangular holes, now it's not an issue), and the rate of infection was off the scale.

So the benefit is a myth, but what IS real, is that if there's a DA trying to make an example out of someone who went too far while defending himself, someone using a knife whose makers boats it to be a better murder weapon, is going to be an easier target for prosecution.

2. Maybe I'm just a broke high school teacher, but 90 dollars for a knife that small is kind of a lot. My hunting knife costs that much, but it's made out of better steel and there's a lot more material there. For less than $20 you can buy something like the Undercover Fighter by United Cutlery. It's basically the same thing as this Plus One, but with a closed ring at the pummel. Just take a Dremel or an angle grinder, or even a hacksaw/file to it, and you can remove a section of the ring in a few minutes, producing the same hook pummel the Plus One has.

3. The extra sheath isn't a big selling point since if you're serious about knives, you should be making your own sheathes anyway. Additionally, only about a dozen American states allow concealed carry of a fixed blade. In all the other states you're better off just carrying it on your side, slightly behind the hip, so it's not easily visible from the front. If you live in a state which allows concealed carry under a certain length, a small knife makes sense. If you live in a state where no knife can be carried concealed, carry a bigger knife that can actually reach organs through the ribcage, and carry it on your hip.

Love your videos. Especially all the practical testing stuff. Thanks much!

I like it. It's like a bare bones basic knife blended with a karambit. Yet the design lends to being safer for the user without thousands of hours practicing not cutting yourself with the karambit.

This is a dumb choice. Take a look at Fisher knives. They have an every day defense carry with a handle built in. No tape needed. It fits the hand similar to the knife shown in this video. The knife shown here is obviously intended to be used as a weapon and so it would be illegal to carry in most places. The Fisher knife has a 3 inch blade and is not necessarily a weapon. So it is legal to carry.
