How to Secure Your GitHub Account with 2FA using Authenticator App

Did they really use SMS as a 2FA? Just got an email alerting me it will be mandatory to have 2FA, which is fun to talk about, but SMS, really?
I've cracked access to phone numbers without even knowing it was not mine. Its beyond weak.
