If you're heavy (whether muscular or fat), don't waste your time. The best way to run fast is to be skinny.

I think the breathing technique is the most essential, and if u listen to music, pick your best tracks that equates to just under 20mins..

You left out: weigh under 160 lb and have little upper body mass/power to speak of, ie the peak runners body. People, like myself, who weight train regularly and hold "excess" lean muscle mass will never hit sub 20. Like John Mayer said: gravity is working against me.

Do you run in circular track or plain track? I run in stadium race track where my best is 27 minutes for 5k

You guys didn’t mention the final step…. A celebratory beer afterwards because a sub 20 puts you in the top tier of all runners.
This is not an easy time at all!

Step 1, do 1km in under 4mins
Step 2, repeat for an additional 4km.

it took me 5 years running to do 5KM in 20 minutes, now (I've been running for 8 years) I do 6 km in 15 minutes. Running is hell, it takes a lot of time before it feels good, but when it does, it's fucking awesome.

I am slightly overweight, weighing 78 Kg for 5'8'' height, 30 years old. One day I decided to participate in a 10k running competition. I never trained. I woke up at 4 am and cycled 15 Km to reach the venue. I completed my first 5K in 25 minutes. I sprinted for the first 2.5 km and then I reached a dead end. I also have iron deficiency causing me to have a shortness of breath more frequently so I had to stop after 5k. I completed 10 k in 70 minutes. I used to do a lot of cycling during my school days and was a good sportsperson but never competed in track events. I want to participate in long-distance running competitions. Will training and a good diet improve my performance significantly? Is 30 too late to train for distance running?

Umm, this only talks about race strategy. It doesn't say anything about the long periods of consistent training to be ready for the sub 20 attempt and how to train for it.

Park run in every town and city across the globe?? Not in France- it’s just not allowed 😡. France - the only country in the world that makes doing something as simple as running complicated

I don't really have a 5km sub 20min mark to reach for, instead I want to be able to finnish a marathon sub 4h. I'm 44 years old and started running 2 years ago. But during training, I have so far been able to do a 5km in 23 min. I'm of course very proud of this.
(Oh, I've not ran the marathon yet) :)

These are mediocre race day tips at best. Definitely not a lot of good specific instruction in here.

I'm 58 and finally ran a 22 minute 5K, a PR for me. I thought I placed only to discover that there was another 58-year-old that ran a 5K in 18 minutes... ugh.

Hi
I’m a cardiac and diabetic person
I’m having 85kgs of weight instead of 164cm height, having belly fat too

I’ve started slowly walking and running too, like this now I’m doing 10 minutes of running 3 sets, in middle 5 minutes of walking, like this im doing 30 minutes of running with 30 minutes of walking, along with this one of my local trainer insist me that do another 45 minutes of gym cardiac workout

It is getting me too hard of totally 2 hours of session in the every morning
I need to know that is it enough by only walking and running of 1 hour everyday to lose my weight and being fit too
Thank you

I am 13 and I love to run because it gets my mind off things happening in my life that is hard for me and so I'm doing a 5k with my uncle so I'm kind of looking at what type of time I want and I'm thinking about getting trying to at least 25 to 20 minutes because my friend who has ran 5Ks before that's a year older than me we're around the same pace and she got 24 minutes

Here's a classic question I used to debate for years...how much quicker would you do your 5k on a treadmill vs outdoors?
