hello do you know any IB boarding schools in france and sweden?
ОтветитьHi - American here. My kids attend Anglo Chinese School (Independent) - the #1 on your list. Also know a lot of students at St Joseph's Institution in Singapore as well. Both schools are (despite the misleading name) government local schools, are highly competitive to gain entrance, and are academically intense. Entrance is 100% based on merit, meaning that it doesn't matter if your father is the prime minister, if you haven't scored in the top 5% of the mandatory nationwide series of 2-month long exams at the end of 6th grade, you will not gain a place in the schools. (I'm oversimplifying, but this is basically the gist of it.) Therefore, the students at these schools are highly motivated, disciplined, and academic to begin with. It's no surprise that the top schools are in Asia. As an American who taught in American schools earlier in my career, I would say that there is very little patience for students who are disruptive in the classroom in Asia, and the teacher does not waste much time (as they do in the US) on classroom management. That is why the teacher-student ratio can be so high. Finally, the Asian culture is such that it's desirable and "cool" to be a top student at these schools. Finally, another nuance that is not covered here is that the only offered curriculum at these Singapore government schools are the most rigorous courses available through the IB. For example, all IB students at ACS(I) are required to take Chemistry AND ALSO EITHER BIOLOGY OR PHYSICS. The only math that is offered is Analysis & Approaches, and the only History that is offered is History (not any of the other options). Therefore, if anything, the average scores actually "undercount" the rigour of the curriculum...
