Ranking Every Halo Reach Weapon In A Tier List

Plasma repeaters and needlers are only superior to the assault rifle as long as you are an elite. Elite players are given a guiding reticle that helps guide their shots against moving spartan players. The main reason is that most likely because most human weapons (minus the rocket launcher) are all hit scan weapons, while covenants are mostly projectile weapons minus the beam rifle. Sad to say, Halo Reach is probably the only game to implement this system.

I don't know if I just couldn't get the hang of it but I was never able to get good results with the grenade launcher. Since it doesn't explode on impact you generally have to aim a few feet in front of whatever you're shooting at to actually damage them, and even then there's a chance it will bounce in a completely different direction than you were aiming, making it really annoying for me. If the standard fire exploded on impact I'd probably like it better.

One plus of the DMR over the BR is that it’s pinpoint accurate if you space your shots. Can’t tell you how many times I died to sniper jackles just out of red reticle range due to BR spread that wouldn’t have happened with a DMR. Also, a note to consider, a properly spaced DMR fire rate is about the same as the BR fire rate. S tier imo

Needle rifle not being in S tier is a shame. It’s basically a CE magnum, you can hold down the trigger to keep firing just like the CE magnum

Huge disagree on the Grenade Launcher. It is easy a S Tier if not higher. It has a longer learning curve then most halo weapons and its potential exists in the variability. If the damage would be higher, it would be unfair.
- it has two fire modes (a auto detonation mode and a manual detonation mode)
- the bouncing of the nades let you shoot around corners or longer ranges or special vertical plays (elsewise only fragnades can do)
- the manual mode (holding the trigger) can be used for direct kills (short, mid AND long range) or you can use it as a "mine"-detonator for a passive play-style like in defends gamemodes or good old "map control"
- the auto mode and a fast weapon swap for quick midrange engagements (like indoor or crowds)
- It deals EMP against vehicles (THE excellent weapon for air-vehicle hijacks) and the shields of enemy crowds (if not multikills)
- or multiple fast shots to destroy a vehicle (just another variable)
- it has a very good reload time (so it can easy keep up with other explosive weapons which do more damage)

Can't say I agree with many of these rankings. I think when it came to conventional weapons you were basing them entirely on their effectiveness in normal matchmaking ground combat and not the virtues of the gun itself. It is as if you were subtly comparing them to the DMR and obviously the DMR is built for ordinary ground combat as a de facto headsplitter. You weren't being entirely reasonable in your rankings.

The Plasma Pistol's normal fire is a rapid shield stripper with high melee synergy. The Assault Rifle is universally applicable in all conventional situations (against shields, flesh, vehicles) but not very effective. It's an underrated loadout weapon that you usually spawn with and allows you to engage just about anything. The Focus Rifle is OPPRESSIVELY effectively at extreme long ranges surpassing the Sniper Rifle. The Concussion Rifle can flip a Warthog in one shot if aimed correctly, same with all other light vehicles. The Concussion Rifle also lets you bounce objects & people around quite effectively. The Plasma Repeater is a mostly versatile weapon with good effectiveness at close range. The Needle Rifle is a damn good headsplitter with potent versatility combined with full auto & tighter reticule bloom than the DMR. Plasma Rifle is a SHIELD STRIPPING GOD but no effectiveness against flesh. Etc, etc. (I can agree with your Spiker rating though. Damn good art style, rubbish gun though.)

I sensed you were ranking based almost entirely on their raw killing power in standard matchmaking PvP compared to the DMR. You glossed over their utilities to a criminal degree. The Grenade Launcher is definitely an SS without question, just needs some awareness and mindfulness.

The grenade launcher for me is absolute top tier. If you have the grenade launcher as well as 2 plasma grenades, you are absolutely equipped to take down any vehicles on the enemy team. Plus if you can land the grenade close enough to an enemy player's body, it is a 1-hit kill. And if you detonate the nade close enough to a player but not enough to get a 1-hit kill, their health and shields are basically gone so you can just pull out your DMR and finish them with a precision shot. I definitely agree though that in the campaign it is weak as hell and it seems that even if I detonate the nade right on the enemy's head, it still takes 2+ nades to kill them, so it goes from being my essential weapon in multiplayer to a weapon that I don't even use when it appears in the campaign.

Disagree on the Plasma Pistol. It not only carries the same abilities it's had since Halo 3, but it's default fire is actually really good. I'd have put it in B-tier to be quite frank.

Yeah, Focus Rifle was disappointing as hell. Watching the Reach trailers, I was hyped. I did like to snag it on Boneyard, had a convenient spawn point. But it required just a second too long of sustained accuracy. Needed too much open space to be effective and you’d be lucky to get 2-3 kills with it.

DMR at an A is heinous. Yes, it’s not as OP as the BR, but there is no BR in Reach, so you basically have a Death Star compared to the other Reach weaponry. I don’t think I was ever better at Halo (relative to the other players at the time) than during Reach with a DMR. Gotta be S-Tier at least and I’d have SS.

The plasma repeater is quite frail and I hate it. I much prefer the plasma rifle. I do like the spiker only because the ammo is quite abundant in some levels but otherwise it sucks. Halo reach is a prequel to combat evolve so there is no dual wielding since the Mjonir Armor was not advanced enough to support it at the setting where halo reach is at.

Idk, in Reach so many people could block your sword strike. Shit was annoying. Glad they removed that in future Halos. Also armor lock kids ruined my plasma launcher fun. Lmao

PvP nade launcher's an S. No question, and I'll usually take it over rockets due to its ammo plus jetpack and armor lock. Just has a high skillcap like snipe. Check my pro pipe montage out for examples.

Also fun fact: the halo 2/3 br and halo reach dmr are more powerful than the halo ce magnum.

the DMR in the entire sandbox is an A tier for sure, but in JUST reach, its SS. There is literally no reason to use any other gun besides a couple power weapons, it can shred vehicles with combined fire from cross map

MCC is great sure, but infinite is really coming along and is A tier in summer 2023!
