Most of these problems can be alleviated by the same things that apply everywhere : Stay away from cities, eat a healthy diet and homeschool.

Much of New Mexico's charm is that it is not like the rest of America. Let's keep it that way.

Please don't move to New Mexico if you are a racist bigot. We have a diverse culture here, gringos, NAs, Hispanics, Blacks and Asians.... we get along pretty well and don't need anymore division than there already is.

omg i call bs on i-25 every stretch of i-25 in new mexico is a safe, comfortable drive. get into colorado and i-25 becomes a deathrace. there are instantly far more vehicles -- none of them are driving the speed limit and i have yet to see a single driver on colorado 25 slow down when it rains. i call immediate and total bs on i-25 being the worst highway! yes, colorado is better maintained, but colorado turns into a three lane nightmare of dangerous and stupid drivers, and most of them drive absurdly large pickup trucks. and it isn't like i-25 in nm is a dirt road. perfectly serviceable road not super maintained, but never to the point of it being a hazard that takes out tires left and right! i've been up and down 25 more times than i care to count. and i'll take new mexico climate over arizona climate any day. the state's elevation is high which means as much as 10 degrees cooler and very dry. only place i ever lived where you can get a little shade or a wind up on the hottest day and be completely comfortable. and contrary to this video's claims a day where it gets colder than zero farenhiet is rare, even in the high mountains if you live in southern new mexico. i lived at 7000 feet where it snows every winter for 15 years and i can count the number of days where it was below zero on one hand. and in alamogordo, it seldom gets colder than 40 degrees in the daytime. drugs are a very serious problem everywhere, but in new mexico weed and psychedelics are legal (yes, shrooms have been low-key legal in nm since 2005, and you may grow them and peyote for your own personal use legally) . if you don't get my point, here it is: street drugs are addictive, cause problems, and lead to some of the worst crimes you'll ever experience. weed isn't addictive the way streets drugs are and both weed and psychedelics are drugs that encourage introspection and spiritual reflection. many people smoke weed in order to get off drugs. never seen so many "weed only" potheads anywhere else than in new mexico, and that includes non-drinker/ex-drinkers who smoke weed to help them avoid drinking. now if you want a direct comparison to arizona: you have mojave rattlesnakes, which are far more irritable than the western diamondback (seen many never even heard one rattle at me, even the one i walked 18 inches from 3 times before i noticed it.) and arizona bark scorpions which can put you out of commission for 72 agonizing hours. these are present and rare in new mexico and are mostly found west of the organ mountains in southern nm, if you see one at all. they would be considered "out of range."

Was born and raised in Albuquerque but after graduating with a business degree in the late 1970's. was unable to find a job that paid more than slave wages. Moved outside of Houston in 1980 and immediately tripled my income and have lived a great life here ending up in a small town called Seabrook on Galveston Bay and retiring when I turned 60. We try to visit Santa Fe and Taos during our hottest month of August but I still remember the the cold winter winds and the horrible spring winds engulfing you in sand and dust. New Mexico is a great place to visit but will never consider living there again.

Red or green? If you know, you know. I lived there for 20 years and I miss it. I lived in Utah for 2 years and it’s also very beautiful with much better infrastructure but missing the unique personality of the land of enchantment. I also missed the diversity of the culture and the population. Santa Fe truly is the City Different and I always loved going there from Albuquerque, although the drive is a drag. Climate was wonderful. It was hard to attract people from other states mainly because the schools weren’t rated very well and people didn’t want to bring their children. I found the medical care to be good overall. It truly is a wonderful state but poor financially and surrounded by wealthy Texas, Arizona and Colorado. Roads are crap and the moment you cross into a surrounding state you feel the difference. Still there is no place else quite like it.
I am originally from Indiana and no offense but I couldn’t wait to get out. After Indiana I spent my college years and most of my youth in Florida. South Florida back then but I’m in central Florida now. I’m old and disabled which is why I’m here with family. I have always loved the western part of the US. I lived in San Diego north county for a couple of years but it was so expensive even in the 90’s that I couldn’t make it. Everyone was chopping up their houses to rent out rooms or garages to make ends meet. It was the most unwelcoming place I’ve ever lived because it was so hard to survive there. I’ll always prefer the west and if you’ve never seen it go because its beauty is unbelievable until you experience it and it is so different than the eastern part of the US. New Mexico will always have a piece of my heart and I wish I could’ve stayed. ❤

I moved here to NM 13 years ago to retire. I have never seen an area more bigoted than NM. 70% of the population is either Hispanic or Indian. No concern for the fact that they are the bottom in education, technology and income. I’m just getting too old to move again or I would.

My husband and I moved to NM almost 5 years ago from the Northeast and we love living here. The people are warm and friendly, with the exception of drivers. The most aggressive drivers I have ever encountered. The culture is vibrant and far more interesting than New England. The landscape is fascinating and you can find landforms that you won’t see anywhere else. Needless to say the weather is wonderful. Plenty of sunny days to get outdoors for recreation.
We wanted to move here because of the cultural diversity as New England has become too old and white. Sorry, if this offends you but I am old and whiteish and desire the enrichment of other cultures. I don’t want to hang out only with people like me I am glad that people think Arizona is a better choice for retirement because we need to conserve our water here and manage growth, and frankly we want to keep New Mexico a secret. Rio Rancho where I live does an excellent job of managing our water. Cost of living was a lot cheaper than New England but it’s rising.
The Negative is lack of physicians, especially specialists. I had to wait a year to get into see a doctor. This might be a big factor as to why people are choosing Arizona over New Mexico.

Born and raised in SW New Mexico. I came back after 40 years to care for elderly parents. There is no economy except for natural resources and agriculture. Our schools are 50th out of 50 (you're welcome, Mississippi). If you don't live in Abq, there is primative health care. It is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. There are some scenic parts up north, but they are too expensive for the average resident. NM is the land of poverty, crime and ignorance.

I've lived here about two years. This is the worst state ever. The people are rude, cops are crooked and don't give a crap. Crime is outrageous. I had a gun pointed at me because I was going the speed limit. There is NO medical assistance. If you are white, you are discriminated against. I'll be moving shortly due to the crap I've put up with. Most of the people who say this is a great state are New Mexicans who have lived here their whole live and know nothing else. It totally sucks here.
