Can’t wait to upgrade my XS Max to the iPhone 13 Pro Max and start using these apps. I do a lot of work in Unreal Engine so it’d be cool to scan real world objects with just my phone and drop them into an Unreal level

How is it possible that the iPhone 12 is allowed to be used, with such a powerful laser? There is a warning on every CD player that there is a laser device inside that can lead to vision damage, and the laser on the iPhone is many times stronger and more dangerous!

Thanks for your video! in your experience which are the best materials that "reflect" the lidar scanner?

Not sure the use case for this, its not really a true lidar scanner. It only measures and captures points at like 15 cm apart then mixes those with the depth camera to create an rgb depth image. They the use that low resolution image to generate out the point cloud. So unlike real lidar point clouds with millions of laser accurate points it's sort of a fake high density point cloud generated from colour pixel data. Hence why you see accuracy of measurements up to 15% out. Its definately designed more for ar games than for true lidar uses. As usual exaggerated apple marketing.

Sony's 3D Creator app on xperia was a lot lot better 4 years ago , this is a joke !

ok polycam is actually sick. you can scan your rooms and then afterwards measure your windows or door width right from the hardware store or whatever in case you need it.

finally i can inaccurately measure my furniture

I can scan a room very quickly and it will give me accurate and detailed floor plan drawings which I can then send immediately to my computer. I can then pull it from the cloud in my kitchen design software, 2020 and draw accurate kitchen designs.
I also use it for quick square footage reports that are instant. Good for the construction industry for the floor plan capabilities and with it are estimating and reports that are instantly generated. So basically something that use to take me 5-8 hours of design and pricing, after I get back to the office from the customers home, now only takes me the amount of time it takes to see every room and pet the family dog before having everything I need , in house to sell a $50,000 kitchen. Increase profit margins by 30%

Fun fact, only the first app use lidar. All the other apps can run on all iPhones with the same precision. Lidar is kind of a gimmick tbh

The same leveller exists in an app, it’s a couple of years old already.

Does anyone here actually use LIDAR? I don't really have any practical use of it that makes my life easier or anything. It's cool, don't get me wrong, just not quite useful yet (at least for me, anyways)
