This is amazing stuff! Did you need the PC on with the app open at all times? I would like to have something I can turn on and off with my phone and potentially also link to whatever I'm playing on spotify

LedFx is the best! Took me a few hours to figure out all the settings and now I have both ESP8226 with Wled working just like your videos. Love how I can pipe music right to my usb sound card. Thanks so much and keep up the work!

I have a stupid question...does my computer have to have a wifi card to do this or can it be ethernet?

Why doesn’t Stereo Mix pick up the audio from my PC? I turned it on, and I selected it on LedFX settings… but it doesn’t react to anything. Why is that?

Hi Chris, thanks for all these succinct and informative videos, I've learned a ton from just watching a handful. I've actually got a few questions relating to Sound React in LedFX vs WLED. Perhaps it could become a topic for a future video.

If I want Sound React to "hear" my computer's audio even with headphones plugged in, then it seems like LedFX is the only viable option because it supports direct audio input (wirelessly anyway). But I'm wondering - with either LedFX or WLED - if it's possible to solder an 1/8" audio jack instead of a mic to the ESP32 for wired audio input. If the electronics check out then only other consideration would be choosing between mono vs stereo input, and if the ESP32 only takes mono then there are solutions for that. Actually, if the left and right channels of a stereo jack were soldered to two pins on same ESP32 board, could either LedFX or WLED do anything with that?

The main reasons I'm asking about wired input, besides use with headphones, are panning and latency. Without the ESP32 in hand I can't really explore much of LedFX's features, but it would be ideal if LedFX already has a built-in way of visualizing panning by "hearing" the left and right audio channels separately. If not then two potential solutions are using audio cable software to split the channels virtually, or if that doesn't work then hooking up physical mono cables carrying the left and right audio channels to separate ESP32 boards (or stereo to one if possible).

In terms of latency, how did this setup compare to the one from your other video where you used WLED and a direct mic? Visually I think LedFX looked a lot cleaner here (really love the EQ filtering and I'm wondering if WLED has it too), but I couldn't tell if the actual response time was faster or slower and if that difference would lie within the software or the audio input method. On second thought, wouldn't a line-in or a direct mic actually be slower because the signal would have to travel both ways over Wi-Fi anyway? Am I correct in assuming that it's the client, not the ESP32, that converts the audio signal into LED data? Or does the board's firmware actually handle all that with the client merely sending it preset info?

I've had a lot of issues with LedFx version 2 (that is still technically in beta). I highly recommend everyone to just use version 1.

I have 2 questions. You stated that you are using 2 different ESP32's. Why couldn't this be done using 1 and just use a different port on the ESP32? My reason for asking is because I'd like to use WLED with 10-20 strips of 50 LED's each using WS2811 outdoor lights for a Christmas display. Can you please explain how this could be done if it's possible ?

Looks great but peeps always use instrumental music instead of music with actual singing and voice which most people listen to, might be nice to see how this work with music that has lyrics!

Hello Chris, thank you for the awesome video! I have two questions, a) is it possible to connect a smart bulb (e14/e27) with ledfx or it only works with addressable led strips? b) is there a way to switch between scenes using a midi controller or any kind of smart button? Thank you very much!

Is there a way to expand this further to separate channels and assign them to different lights and get "stereo" lighting? example: your watching a movie, a bomb goes off on the left side of the screen and leds react on the left?

Just like the feature where you can make the lights react to a frequency range, is there a way to make the lights react when a sound is (x)db or react with a small amount at lower db and more at higher db?

Just wondering because it would be cool is you are watching for example an action movie and when something is building up and the sound is raising that the lights get brighter or something.

Or if a gun shoots, the lights react to the side of the screen, which the sound came from (with stereo).

This is exactly what I've been looking for. Was hoping a company had developed it in a standalone product, Govee came close with M1. Guess I'll have to put in a little elbow grease and set it up myself. Thanks for the walkthrough.

Do Do you know of a way to do this with Goove led strips or any other Govee product?

Govee uses a microphone to do this but a program to sync directly with what's playing on the computer seems to be more efficient in my opinion.

Hey Chris. I planned to do the setup you showed on your last video (Sound Reactive WLED) using INMP441 mics around my home theater system and TV. Can I then select these mics as an audio input? I did not fully understand if the audio sources are "discovered" with ESP32 WLED modules or is it an audio source from a PC where you installed LedFX, because you said "you could just use your regular >>PC<< microphone". Could you elaborate on that, please? Thanks a lot for your tutorials, they are beyond awesome 😊

VERY Cool! Thanks! Can you please go into more detail with the how you are playing the music. I am assuming your music source is the PC you just configured and added the Realtek drivers to. I have stereo mix loaded and enabled. I am playing music from my PC and I am not getting any reaction to the music. I can change the color of the LEDs with the software, but once I turn the background to black, set the lows to pink, the mids and highs to black, and play music from my PC on the network, nothing happens. I can switch the background color to any color and the LEDS will change to that color. My guess is it has something to do with the output of my music not being detected by the app. More info on how you setup your output would be helpful. THanks!
