I just wished my architecture experience were a lot like this rather than another high school experience but tougher subjects. From how interactive the professors to the environment is, my university rn cant even compare just from the lack of facility to poor interactive activities.

I find a lot of architecture is blind to the human experience. Putting concrete everywhere is not the solution, tearing down people’s homes shouldn’t be romanticized. If architecture is about accommodating to humans it should be focused on social justice. About making sure everyone has a home and making sure public spaces are accessible. It blows my mind how close-minded some architects can be to romanticize their craft but ignore their actual impact. It comes off as sleazy. I don’t have all the answers, but it seems to me that most architects are blinded by their upper class perspective.

Forget architecture. Make some money, look forward to retirement, exercise your creative chops in advertising for big pharma.

Seriously? THIS is an award winning doc??? This is very American. The students seem a bit immature, very SELF-focused (navel gazing), "This is so hard and so intense you have no idea!"
No one can hear critiquing anymore? Everyone expects teachers to say to say "You're a genius"? (because their parents thought they were?)
One goes to school to LEARN. Unless you think you know better than the teachers? And then, WHY go to school?

I spent 5 years in this studio culture, and then the next 40 years trying to move beyond it. Studio life and crits are an important skill to have, but the great failing of architectural education is that once you get past imagining something that doesn’t exist, it is a team effort to actually build anything. The last two years of arch school should focus on understanding the complex process of bringing architectural ideas into a world of collaborative business. Architects limit their own influence on the world with this constant focus on design heros who ‘..get some experience, but then I want to have my own small firm’. The Broadway actors who move from the chorus to stardom all understand the complexity of putting on a show, they don’t retreat to a cottage in Vermont putting on their own plays at the village rec center.

Earth
E = Sigma, Everybody
Arth = Arthiext
This becomes a code of this planet citizen so there are only 2 types of people on this planet. There are no others.
1. Want to be the Arthiext, and Fight to be Arthiext
2. Want to be the Arthiext, but Never fight to be Arthiext.
What are you going to do when Everyone who wants to be Arthiext but never fight, knock on your office? “It looks like a job, but it is not”, “It looks like you will get a money, not likely. They will cheat you.”
- Now, you understand. What is more suffering than Being Yourself is forbidden and the only way to gain money is by trading your suffering.

Harvard GSD and like is a joke that always accepted 3rd rate school kids in wholesale because no smart sane person will pursue more schooling for art degree except "competitive art"(oxymoron) majors. GSD degree no better than JC art degree

I love how the head of the Architecture program was complaining about how inadequate the program is when it comes to preparing the student for the real world. Imagine shelling out 50k+ a year to get an education, only to hear the head of your program say you not being taught adequately.

Architecture is a creative positive who’s enemy is a hubris government that creates bad policies. Therefore people suffer regardless of the creation of the finest buildings. The buck lies with a sensible political system.

This is the main struggle of our precious young and aspiring architects, and this is why the poetical is hammered out of balance by the pragmatic…!!!

This school it seems brings out the best out of a person as well addresses the part of being human that needs to be refined. I see architecture as evolution.

In my eyes you are a special breed.❤

Makes note to stay the hell away from whatever projects the Robert Moses-fellating jackass ended up working on. I could maybe understand if this "visual procession" had been a lasting achievement, supporting the social and economic well-being of NYC indefinitely (like, say, L'Enfant's DC plan), but even the dude in question admits that it had deteriorated mere decades after construction. A few years of beauty wasn't worth the damage to New York's communities, let alone the hundreds of cities and towns across the country that followed Moses' example. Dude fucked up, and anyone who approaches his work uncritically is entirely suspect as a planner of America's built environs.

...Just thought I should say.

Cities are projects made with architecture, art, and more. Technology, cameras, art, and architecture are the topic of the products of civilization. Architecture has a process as in the video. A project in Israel or in Asia needs a process like when a person develops shoes. Architecture projects are what gave cities.

I really wanted to drop from my architecture program after the first year. But it turned out that it isn't possible in my country to change majors after passing a year. Now, I can't do my projects and assignments. I'm failing every day and can't do anything. Every day that I decided to be an architect....

and yet, all I see are gigantic blocks of steel and glass. Every city contains structures from the past that are beautiful, inspiring and simply nice to look at. Now? Boring, uninspiring and honestly a bit communist. You look at a modern skyline and see what was lost and replaced and it's worse.

Having watch the full show. Provide me some draw backs to my perspective towards architecture. I think the building blocks of architecture needs to be asserted and be parallel with the outside world of architecture. Students need to be in firms more than they are in school base; because it allows future architects to understand and view what it really means to be in the profession. Give them a tangible proof and insightfulness what real tools and ideal approach does their predecessors have towards architecture. This will provide strong opinions and ideal forms of new innovation. Less school base and more hands on learning.. critic is good. But to give support to the student rather than show weakness of his or her approach. The only two questions teachers should ask is what can you do to improve it and why do you think that is? Nothing more, nothing less. Soon enough they will see a better approach, and new innovations may begin. 🥰

What would be interesting to know is how many of these students actually become architects. In the UK only 7% become architects, in Finland it's 75%. Why? Because most Finnish students, after the first year, begin working in an architect's office while studying. Indoctrination into the profession, so to say.

A  20/20 Vision.....( a creative non-fiction  )

In the end does one become a Architect to express a humanity or is it, a humanity seeking expression in Architecture ?

It is time, in the end, we must all face the facts.  Do we participate in a promise of debt or a promise of a shared humanity?
A..calls on us to hope. B..calls on us to hope. I'm not talking about blind optimism here — the almost willful ignorance that thinks underpaid employment will go away if we just don't talk about it, or the pandemic crisis will solve itself if we just ignore the Annual leave deductions. No, I'm talking about something more substantial.
It's the lunchtime hope of the office gathering around a microwave singing Christmas carols; the hope of Hungarian and Italian immigrants from Europe setting out for distant shores; the hope of young new RIBAs  bravely patrolling the Airport constuction site; the hope of the young modelmaker who dares to defy the odds; the hope of a skinny architecture grad from Budapest, with a Hungarian name who believes that Hong Kong has a place for her, too.
Hope in the face of difficulty. Hope in the face of uncertainty. The hope ......
