You should never wear gloves to inspect old books… it makes it way easier to damage the pages/tear the pages because you can’t feel the pages as well. You just turn the pages delicately with clean hands and you should be fine. They were meant to be turned with ungloved hands, so they’ll be fine without gloves if treated carefully.

Never wear gloves while looking/ examining at a book .
