I like your approach, it is slow enough for a "$lowB" to follow and do each step.
I have a hard time keeping up with fast how to computer stuff, because my burn in knowledge fuse takes time write to floppy disk...
A good way to help this that all struggle with at some level, is to have a few lists of things to do at front end and at end perhaps.

There is no worse way how to start a video than by telling them to care about you before delivering when the least amount of content.

Worked for me, made my laptop in general faster.

I did leave the option "Smooth edges of screen fonts", since I dont think that takes much performance and the text is much easier to read.

For those who have tried all these turn this off and turn that off videos and still have the issue, i was the same, i downloaded malwarebytes and turned out i had a malware issue that was causing DWM to hogg my gpu. Now everything works fine

turn off trans effect in colors setting worked for me

Worked for me on Windows 10 and two external monitors! Just choose any other screensaver (e.g. from None to Blank) - this action alone fixed my laggy display.
