thanks for the info I had to get the piece taken apart the video helped out thanks. that glue stuff on the plastic is the bonding agent leaching out of the plastic it happens when it gets old or too weathered etc. ..

Once again, stop using steel screwdrivers on plastic and wood, get plastic pry-bars to avoid damage. They're like 3 euros a set online.

Took the long way around it to remove the center console. Make it faster by putting your fingers in on the right side of the gear shifter, reaching in and under the black trim part with the leather covering still in place and gently pulling up instead of a screwdriver, same effect. Everything else is correct till we get to the top two screws. Save time by not undoing the torx screws, but rather push the item tray all the way forward, get a plastic pry-bar, lift square trim piece at the top behind the item tray revealing 2 large black philips screws holding tray, remove, grab item tray and gently pull forward and up unlatching it. Lift it and you have access to top wood trim screws.

The black plugs you assumed are weird and connect to nothing are splice boxes and they are great if you ever plan on adding factory or aftermarket features to your E38. You needn't take them off seperately, but rather there's a latch you click and unclip the entire assembly with all the splice boxes off the wood trim and pull down a small plastic rail. That very assembly you removed them off of.
