Wendell you lost the bloatware and you look and sound great on camera! I'm gonna go on a binge watch spree of Level1Linux

ASUS claims all B650 and X670 boards support UDIMM ECC memory. I personally would love an overclocked 2x32 64GB kit of ECC UDIMMs but that seems to be a pipe dream.

Cannot stress 'update your BIOS' enough, even for the non vcache. So many intermittent hiccups that I misdiagnosed.

One bios update, and so smooth, so stable.

Take care of yourself Wendrell.
Just one suggestion about AMD, please be transparent about the issues with Linux. I bought a config based on your recommendations in 2019 and I was (am) plenty disappointed with the power management on Linux.
Having random shutdown, no resume, freeze was not enjoyable .

I always went for AMD but don't fall for Opensource washing neither. At least Intel does their homework.

beside that, you rocks :)

Which Motherboard are your using in this test... also have you noticed an issue ( with linux ) on x670 or B650 or A620 taking up 6X~10X the space on m.2 Nvme or SSD? I have seen this on ALL Asus and MSI motherboards... curious what you have seen on storage/formatting when you check storage formatting.

Hope to see something in DDR5 with inline ECC. Far as my research shows it is on-die ECC and it is not ECC. They really should be using another term all together.

I wonder if this'll hit sale pricing as fast as the 7950X did. 🤔
Actually went with a 7950X when building my SO's new rig last holiday season specifically because it was available at $570. Was originally planning on building 13th gen Intel but that was enough to nudge me over to AM5.
Also very excited to see how future VCache chips look. The 7950X will probably pull it's own weight until late into AM5's lifecycle, so I'm hopeful for what our upgrade options will look like when the time comes to swap it out for a newer option.
CPU tech is so awesome right now, and it's only going to get more exciting as Arrow Lake and Panther Lake enter the arena. 👀

Watching a lot of workstation and gaming benchmarks for the 7950x3D i dont really see the benefits for that massive cost increase
slightly faster compiles, slightly slower rendering, simulation workloads are a mixed bag but nothing i have seen is well in to the double digits
As for gaming it feels if you have a GPU powerful enough to not be bottlenecked, your monitor will be the bottleneck
Just, meh, if i was building a workstation today i would just go with the 7950X and not bother with that massive cache tax that does not realistically do much, or wait for the intel HEDT or even longer to see if the new Threadripper will actually exist

I'm really interested to see how this pans out on the Epyc side. The 7773X is supposed to ship with 768MB of L3. I'm assuming that will only be a couple of CCDs that have the V-cache on them (the math would check out for half of the CCDs having the V-Cache)?

AM5 is a far better platform for the more muscular needs of Linux.

W/ its 24x pcie5 lanes vs 16x for intel, it all totals to 104GB/s vs 80GB/s

CXL is a terrific feature for VMs etc too.

The guidance that 13900K needs faster memory / implying that it’s more sensitive to memory latency around 4 minutes in conflicts with the findings of hardware unboxed.

Could you test setting up cpusets to force programms to go to specific CCDs? I already use a script on my computer for when I play games, the game process gets one CCD, and all other processes that I have permission to get sent to the other CCD. This seems like a better option than just leaving a CCD unused while gaming.

I'm curious do how do you think the 7950x would work with proxmox trying to cpu pin the cores in the 3d v cache chiplet to a single windows 10 vm and using the other 8x to share resource across multiple VMs and containers? Would you get same performance out of the box as a windows 10 bare metal?
