I am forcibly retired and am being forcefully destroyed by our IRS and the OIG which are picking the bones clean on my carcass as I am progressively plowed into the ground like manure by a plow by our IRS. Operation barbarosa claimed the lives of 186,000 German soldiers and 3,000 loofwafa aircraft. Imagine if Hitler decided not to invade Russia. He would have had 3,000 more aircraft to go against our allied invasion

In the 90's my brother built a 1/5 scale radio control Old Crow.
I found Bud's address and sent him photos.
We then exchanged several letters. One day in the mail was a large box.
Inside the box was 5 signed copies of Bud's "To fly and fight" and an 8 x10 signed glossy of Bud on his P-51D.
I didnt ask for this special gift from Bud. He did it all on his own. An absolutely wondeful human being.

Really nice guy I met him 2 years ago, he lives in the area. He signed a copy of his book for me. He just turned 102 on 14 Jan . The local air museum has a cafe named Old Crow for him.

Bf 109 should have deployed combat flaps to turn better than the p 51 i t would have been a different story

Bud Anderson would have known that the 109 pilots would invert in order to bail out. Bud murdered that pilot in order to confirm the kill. Vor maybe he just enjoyed killing Germans.

I highly recommend Bud Anderson's book. That was the first book in a series of autobiography and biographies including several P-47 accounts and David McCampbell's book about the Pacific theater and Hellcat combat.

If it's FW190 it would be a different case....

Anderson did have the advantage in his plane, but he used it the way he had to. The difference was not so much as to make the outcome obvious.

Chuck Yeager was Bud Anderson's wing man, not the other way around. He was often cited for saying Anderson was the better pilot. They both became test pilots after the war. I met Anderson as a kid when he was having dinner in Illinois with a Thailand squadron member near the end of the Vietnam War. Man could drink!

With 2 equally skilled pilots , the better plane and hardware wins. That is why the USA must make better aircraft than our enemies.

The P51 was an nice plane but already a museums piece when it was new.
