Of course, this was from wayyyyy back in the days before 2 pt conversions & moving the PAT back 10 yards, nowadays the scores are hardly ever this "neat".

ever since this episode, i've had this bible verse permanently memorized lol.

Would have been better if homer picked John 14:6: "Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?"

Right after that verse is the story of Jesus cursing the fig tree. Homer probably could've used that in his argument somehow...if he actually knew what he was talking about.

honestly though, lovejoy is pretentious buffoon who only cares about donations and his sermons sound like fanatic ramblings from a 60s megachurch. he dislikes, nay despises his flock, multiple times he gives the impression to regard them as little more than gullible morons. if i was homer, he would be the last man on earth who could persuade me.

I think this is the only time in the entire series we get the impression that Lovejoy is actually good at his job
