ОтветитьAmazing.
ОтветитьOnly Andorra left for me to explore!
ОтветитьYet Malta is even smaller than Andorra. But it's an island (3 islands actually).
ОтветитьSuper, greetings from Italy! :)
ОтветитьJust a correction, one of the Andorran's "prince" is the Bishop of la Seu D'Urgell (Catalonia), not the Spanish bishop. Only 2 min to summarize Andorra?

ОтветитьHi sir
ОтветитьThat episode may have come out in 2008, but was the Vatican segment from 2000, San Marino from 2006, and the other two (Andorra and Liechtenstein) from 2008? I know the Monaco segment came from 2004 - most likely from a 2004 episode involving Nice and the French Riviera.
ОтветитьMonaco was originally ten times its current size, and the rest of the land was mainly lemon orchards, the fruit of which it was famous for, and was its main source of income. France and Monaco had a tenuous relationship after the Napoleonic wars reshuffled medieval Europe, with France sort-of but not totally recognizing Monaco's independent status. France coveted their lemon orchards, so they told the Monégasques basically "If you give us your lemon orchards and the land they stand on, we'll officially recognize your independence forever" with the implied threat of "if you don't give us those lands, we might invade and make you French". Monaco reluctantly agreed, and in the Franco-Monégasque Treaty of 1861 handed over nine-tenths of its land to France for continued self-sovereignty. Their loss plunged the country into poverty, and the ruling prince built the famous Monte Carlo casino as a way of bring in revenue to the country. This remained the country's main source of income until the late 20th century, when banking and acting as a tax haven took over.
ОтветитьI've been to Andorra and whilsg the capital put me off at first, the countryside is breath taking. Beautiful part of the world
ОтветитьIt's a very good video but there are other tiny countries. Malta for example is smaller than Andorra but their population is bigger than all five combined. And there are small countries and territories that are not complitely independent but they are they own nation basically. (Gibraltar, The Faroe Islands, The Isle of Man etc.) And of course there countries with very little populations like Iceland although it's a relatively big country by land area. So it's very interesting if a change a little bit on the criterions than there are much more places that could fit. I think Malta could be on the list but I see that their population doesn't make theme a real micro state.
ОтветитьBest regards to San Marino from Croatia. Saint Marino/ Sveti Marin was born in Croatia and he founded the beautiful country the Sanmarinese call home. We love you
Good work Rick. Aldo, I think you missed Luxembourg...
I've been to three of these micro-countries: San Marino, Vatican City and Monaco.
ОтветитьI just love reversible introductions
Ответить1st pope st.peter? that's bull!!!!! huge amount of bull....

The Roman Empire didn’t fall until 1453 after wave upon wave upon wave of Islamic Imperialism.

ОтветитьBeen skiing in Andorra and did a short stop in Liechtenstein long ago but San Marino was really a positive surprise to me! Really worth the visit. I still have the Vatican on my list and have no desire to go to Monaco at all....
ОтветитьMalta was forgotten here. It is smaller than Andorra.
ОтветитьBeen to Vatican City + San Marino + Liechtenstein (coming up: Monaco and Andorra) -- if you are an art lover: go to the Vatican museums is a must see (!) Thanks for the great documentary!!! Greetings from Germany
