"I'm not really interested in storing all that nerd talk perpetually" haha. As always, even a few years later, excellent content from Gerald Undone. Thanks for all that you do. TJ
ОтветитьI bought a used Lenovo ThinkStation P520 Xeon W-2135 6-core PC and bought the extra dual-3.5" drive bay and 64GB of DDR4 2933MHz ECC RAM and I'm getting an $80 dual 5.25" with triple 3.5" drive bay hot swap drive cage from Lenovo for $32, which gives me seven 3.5" drives total and I use one for my security camera hard drive. I use Reolink PoE security cameras and the Reolink Windows app. I use one core for TrueNAS, one core for a Minecraft server, and 4 cores for Windows. Eventually, I'll upgrade to the Xeon W-2255 or Xeon W-2295, or maybe just upgrade to a Lenovo ThinkStation P620.
ОтветитьHey Gerald, What would recommend buying today?
ОтветитьThank you for great review. I have a big collection of 4k disks and need a nas for saving my rips and also making my own cloud an accessible for my family to movies and whatever they need. What would you recommend since we are in 2023? Thanks
ОтветитьEditing nas to Lanarafat un Shite.
Ответитьyou pay for the synology software, the hardware is for free.
ОтветитьHey what do you know. Dropping the speed down a bit helps. Thanks for the tip.
ОтветитьBackblaze sounds great untill this small company seizes to exist. Their is a reason why people use onedrive, amazon or google drive.
ОтветитьGoogle Drive for Business. Unlimited for 40 usd per month. we have 100tbs on there currently
ОтветитьYes… follow up video.
ОтветитьAre you planning to do an updated video? I'm looking to future proof our NAS... But I can't find any trustworthy advice.
ОтветитьNas is not safe from hacker..
Ответитьplease do another. this is sooo confusing
ОтветитьAre you still using this same setup now in 2022?
ОтветитьI'd never thought about just getting rid of all the non used files. My issue is I don't publish 99% of what I film so it's often not edited into something nice. Maybe I should spend more time doing that so I can delete the old stuff.
ОтветитьAlso synology has an auto ingest mode. right when you plugin a USB / ESATA drive you can have it pull the data and place it chronologically in the synology system.
ОтветитьI would absolutely be interested in a custom solution. Particularly if using open source software.
ОтветитьWhy a Synology 1618+ and not the 1621+, you shot yourself in the foot before even getting started
ОтветитьGerald.. maybe an update of this?
ОтветитьFYI the sound is rather bass and vibrating.
Ответить"Micromachines, just like the real thing, only smaller."🤣 Great review. Wow. not sure how I missed this one. I am still no better off in deciding. LOL
ОтветитьThis is a blast from the past! I went out and bought the i5 version of the QNAP in August of 2022 (the same 672xt-i5-8gb. It cost right around $1700 w/tax. The processor says 1.7ghz with turbo up to 3.1ghz. I did the i5 because it is a 6-core processor.
Anyone know if this was a dumb choice versus the newer version with the i3 that runs at a solid 3.1ghz but with 4 cores?
I am going to plug this directly into an 8k tv for streaming 4K/8k home video projects. A lot of thought went into the correct model/features but would I have been better off with just buying the newer one with the i3?
This is an oldie but goodie video so I don’t know if anyone is reading these (including the G-Man but feel free to share ANY thoughts on this unit).
Thanks all & Gerald. These videos hold up years later! ;)
I just came to see what military grade storage looks like
ОтветитьIf it ain't broke then why fix it? Looks like either of these will work fine for someone needing 10Gbe. Good review and thank you.
ОтветитьBrilliant as always.
Ответить😂 😂 “The QNAP saves you money but is $200 more expensive”.
ОтветитьBe mindful, QNAP has had massive randsomware attacks on their drives that forces users to pay hackers in bitcoin to get their data.
Ответитьseveral dirty danglers hanging down every orifice of my computer....legendary
ОтветитьGreat video! I would love to see the actual work flow of your team video editing process using the NAS solution.
ОтветитьSeems like qnap is a nobrainer
ОтветитьAs an agency owner and video editor… I love what you’re talking about and wish I knew what you are saying 😂
ОтветитьNever ever use RAID thinking about restoring if one drive fails, RAID IS NOT a BACKUP ! 😀 use normal RAID 0 and additionally/separately - Backup.
ОтветитьWhat about the promise nas systems?
ОтветитьWasabi is about $5.99 bucks per TB storage and nothing for accessing and downloading (unlimited pretty much)
Some restrictions so people don't try to abuse it, but its a pretty good deal
Custom solution for sure!!
ОтветитьThanks for the video! Helped a lot.
ОтветитьHe great with rule 3-2-1.
Ответитьgreat review. Thank you!
ОтветитьHow do you have the NAS connect to your local machine, ie networked or directly connected to your work station pc? Those look like directly connected read/write speeds
ОтветитьI edit off a fast NVME and an internal SSD so really I am looking for a faster, more compact way of storing backups. I am looking to get a 4 bay NAS with 2 drives copying the other 2 drives. When its full I would just store the pair of drives long term. Can anyone see a reason this wouldn't work, or a better way of doing it?
Ответитьhey Gerald, can we get an update on this topic for 2021? maybe there is a budget solution, faster, efficient etc currently? thank you!
ОтветитьDirty danglers? haha
ОтветитьThank you so much for this video. Because of these videos, I was able to buy a Synology NAS (my first ever NAS) 920+. I am in the initial phase of my YouTubing career and 920+ has been incredible, especially DSM 7. With Synology Photos, I could organize with photos like Google Photos. I am using my NAS with MBP M1 Pro 2021 and the experience has been mind-blowing. with 7GBPS speeds in the new Mac, it has been a hell of an experince.
ОтветитьCrystal Clear Explanation Build one at End Of The Year . Awesome
ОтветитьWow...I made it to the four minute mark before getting a bit glassy eyed. That is not bad for a landlord.
Great video! tHanks for all the info. I have a super Triple Drive backup system - but this is next level stuff!
These are great reviews but might not be relevant to most creaters as they're pretty expensive. I'd love to see you do some two bay reviews. Thanks for this!
ОтветитьFreakin' freekishly fast and efficient breakdown of these devices. Nice job guy.
ОтветитьHi! Anyone know if there is any lag in editing of a NAS compared to editing of an internal or DAS-(thunderbolt/usb) attached drive?
Ответить
