Great review but these are nowhere near as reliable as the Wireless Go II. The audio was dropping out at less than 100 feet. The Rode package is only $50 more and has onboard backup recordings. If you rely on these for important work there is no comparison.

RODE mics are susceptible to interference from nearby electronics including themselves. I have to separate the RX units by a foot or more when multiple units are in use. What about the Saramonic?

Does the saramonic have internal recording like the rode go ii? Also, will these settings be okay for a sit down interview...
Sony A7iii audio Level: 3
Saramonic TX: Mic Gain 6. Will this be a good starting point before I adjust? Thanks for this video!!

Looking several reviews of several products wireless audio recording. What is often missing:

* How easy is it to export the recorded audio to your PC/Mac?
* Is there a backup recorded audio on the transmitters ?
* How easy is it to accidentally turn the transmitter of (in a pocket)
* How easy is it to detach the attached microphone (also, e.g. if the transmitter in the speakers pocket)

In most reviews those infos are missing, or just partially added.
Please include such info in the future, thank you!

got this and it works really great! the only problem is, with the charging dock... when i got home after a week straight of shooting with this device... the dock still have 2 bars of power and the RX and TX are fully charged. Left the RX and TX docked inside the box and after 5 days I checked up on it. the charging dock is drained... Does it mean that we cannot leave the devices docked?

Question, probably stupid, but.... should I remove the small piece of tape covering the contacts on the back of the units? It seems to light up the charging lights even with the tape.

One thing to mention is the Rode has the in-unit record function, which was never an issue for me since I don't do separate audio/video recording. I chose the original Blink 2-person for our church video because it was $100 less than the Rode and I didn't need the record function. I was thrilled to see the new Blink Pro model, has all the right upgrades, and today was $70 off. I bought one for myself today. Yes, it is odd that they changed the on-unit charge port to USB micro from USB C on the original Blink. Not a deal breaker just a pain in the cable butt. Great review, thanks for this, liked and subscribed.

I think it's okay to mention this since B&H comes up on your affiliate link: Today only, Thursday, December 23, 2021, until midnight eastern time, B&H has the Blink Pro 2-person on sale for $229. An incredible deal.

Man your audio sounds really good, I wonder how? I have this blink pro500. I wonder if it is because of the -12db that you mention a lot, do those settings make a difference? Or it is just your voice that it is really good LOL I am in a small room recording. Thanks

I'm curious ...when you were walking around through the studio were you using the lav with the saramonic or the built in mic? I really feel like lavs on a lot of these small systems act as antennas.

If this really works through walls then this is a go. I've tried the synco and it cuts in and out in the same room if the person turns around. I DO still love the audio gain of the hollyland mics though. I wonder if they work through walls (and human bodies) as well?

Hi, I've just bought the Blink 500 Pro.
I expected the audio input level metre to show that I am talking, but it only seems to respond if I put it very close to my mouth, but when clipped on to my jacket it does not show any audio movement. Is that right? Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks. I'm a newbie to all this!

Thank you for this video, it was very helpful and I went and bought the Blink 500 Pro B2 set. I have a separate question...

I'm trying to record videos using the Camera MX app. If I stop the video after 40 mins the file is just 27 mins long, if I stop the video after 32 mins the file is just 12 mins long. It's the strangest thing... When I check the screen the record sign is up and the clock is still running but when I press stop it the video file is just a tiny percentage of what I thought I recorded. I have about 40GBs free on my phone and a good processor. I've recorded 45 min videos before, but only with the shitty camera that comes with the phone and isn't suitable to use with an external microphone. I'm stumped!

So I'm wondering are there any camera apps that you would recommend for using with the Blink 500 Pro? Thanks!

Maybe a little late...

Thanks for this nice review!
Great channel!

But I did some measurements.
It is bad, really bad.
A lot of harmonic distortion above 1,25 KHz. Quantization noise is terrible.
This is the cause of the ‘trebly’ and harsh sound.

Combine this with 62,35 ms latency (almost 2 frames @ 30 FPS), the dropouts in real-world and uncontrolled situations (even at 5 meters), the lack a a decent level meter, the low gain range, plus the stupid paring issues, it is a definite NO GO for me.

I did not expect professional level of quality, but this set is unusable imho.
It’s a pity and shame, cause it has lots of potential and a great form factor.

Saramonic has sent me a replacement set with new firmware (Tx v1.1.9), it still is a huge disappointment. I personally find it strange why a lot of reviewers focus on the range test instead of sound quality and latency. Happily you did not. ;-)

Rode Wireless Go II kills this set in every aspect.

The Rode Wireless GO II came out recently and I think the only thing it still has over the Saramonic Blink500 Pro is range/reliability, and now you can get a kit with receiver+2 transmitters for about the same price, but yeah, it still doesn't include cables, lavs, wind muffs nor case. Another thing I like about the Saramonic mics are that they made an accessory that can turn it into a handheld mic that is also a charger. When you put a regular mic windscreen and a mic flag on it, it looks indistinguishable from a regular handheld mic. Maybe $60 for it is a bit much for what it does, but for one, Rode doesn't have that, and for two, anyone could manufacture their own version, so who knows, maybe we'll see a third party version in the future.

EDIT: Oop, just as I was browsing Amazon I came across a mic handle for the Rode Wireless Go, made by SmallRig. Differences are that it is much less expensive, and it extends a bit, but it doesn't charge, and definitely doesn't look as good. I also just found out the holder for the Saramonic mic comes with the foam wind screen.

Hi! I've been researching alot on wireless mics, and your tests are definitely the best so far. I'm deciding between this (with just 1 transmitter because I don't need 2) and the rode wireless go. I plan to use the mics for instructing online Yoga classes. Regardless of budget, would you recommend the saramonic blink 500 pro over the rode wireless go? I'm not too familiar with the technical side of these things 😣

What’s the upload process like? I am not liking what the Rode process looks like using their software. I’d also rather there be a way to lock the lav mics in and just use a memory chip.

Hi, thanks for the painstaking tests through out!
Did you try the Audio-Technica System 10, also 2.4Ghz, dual antennas on camera receiver with the body pad transmitter Lav mic and handheld dynamic mic with built in transmitter?
It's worth comparing with the 2.4Ghz gears you tested
Thank you!
