Karthik Vaideeswaran leads the R&D teams focused on primary (drug-contact) container-closures innovation, advanced materials engineering and the primary container-closures and delivery-device program management for drug-device combination-products at Eli Lilly and Company. Karthik earned his (5-year integrated) M.Sc. degree in Polymer Science from the University of Madras in 1993, his Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Engineering from the University of Connecticut in 1997 and completed his post-doctoral fellowship in Surface Science at the University of Cincinnati in 1998. Additionally, Karthik earned an MBA from the University of Kentucky in 2004. In addition, Karthik has gained significant industrial experience of 20+ years in the areas of product development, polymer engineering, advanced materials technologies, program and organization management while working at Lexmark International, Saint-Gobain Corporation, Celanese Corporation and now, Eli Lilly and Company – in diverse roles encompassing increasing technical and people responsibilities.

About the Topic: "Part 1 of the presentation will provide a glimpse into device development for drug-delivery combination products highlighting the interfaces between container closure, device, drug formulation, human factors, regulations, and injection physiology. Part 2 of the presentation will go into a brief discussion about potential career-paths in materials, pharma & biotech industries.
