The Cycle Frontier is DEAD...what happened?

This was my favorite game since Dayz Standalone launches... My friends and I are devastated; RIP TCF

But why did they have to shut it off? it had a solid Playerbase

I remember playing one of the early betas. It used to be a 15-20 minute round of claiming harvesters, killing boss monsters and players. With minor stuff like “collect this for X bonus points to your score at the end”. Near the end couple of minutes you’d go to 1 of 3 extraction zones. Often players would camp there to get the kills to boost their score.
I just used a stealth gear item and ran past over hundreds of players during my games to get onto the ship to save my points. But camping for kills was still a semi viable way to get to the top of your lobby score board. I did too with sniper rifle, AR, shotgun as my combo to fight AI and players.

ALL GEAR had infinite uses. Once you bought it it was yours, you NEVER lost it on death. It was the best version in my opinion.

Im seeing same kind of problem here as the Dark and Darker is having (its basically tarkov but medieval lol) the friggin armors man, in these kind of extraction shooters they seem to be a really hard thing to balance (weapons too if they have nothing else than tiers, Dark and Darker also has just colors as tiers) The game has plenty of potential, but as of right now its really annoying to headshot enemy multiple times and then they just land bodyhit on you and you are gone just because they had better weapon and armor.

we need another casual extraction shooter like the cycle.. i love the lobby hub with other players and seeing the different factions.. i hated the PVE tho.. those monsters were hard as hell to kill and bullet sponges

Despite all of the pain this game brought me, It has an awfully nostalgic vibe.

I had played over 400 hours before I realized how much I hated the design of this looter shooter. Anybody who has played The Cycle - Frontier knows it had (thankfully) big problems. The main problem is there weren't any "No PVP killing" - Servers at all. Every map deployment was met with the #1 hazard, the other Players on your Map. I would (not alone) spend an hour looting, killing creatures and collecting a mass of items, only to have some LZ Sniper shoot me in the back, and steal my loot when trying to extract ! I mean their was no safe zone at the LZ's or anything, just high risk extractions. I have better games to play, that will not leave me feeling cheated or robbed by the PVP interactions. So good riddance to bad rubbish is what I say about this game. Please try to get it right, next time.

dam this game was so much fun before they decided to turn it into a tarkov rip off and name changed it to Frontier. Game was my #1 go to when it was just The Cycle on epic game store....not sad to see it go as they had a huge community they pissed off when they re-released this monster of a game that was nothing like its original game. Plus the devs are crap they ban and block anyone who had anything negative to say about there game who was just voicing there complaints and suggestions....now i know i was right all along since the game itself died.

The Cylce on epic game store was a great unquie game....then they copied pasted a crap game that already only caiters to a very low population....

Man this is so annoying and sad, I was craving something new,and idk how but cycle came to mind again. I played this with a friend before and solo, those were fun times, so I thought Id give the game a try again. Ngl I love it, Im out of my comfort zone unlike before, but hearing it's gonna go down in like what a week is such a bummer

The beta is what killed people need to know they need to realse fuller game before people don’t have patience

I agree with all this but player count wise there’s no applicable way to compare this to tarkov bro. tarkov has like 400 thousand concurrent players at one time this game has 2k just had to point out that statement really is void even when tarkov is low count it’s upwards of 200k players at one time so doesn’t really add up. cycle was a money grab, hands down

Is there any campaign or offline mode so I can play in this game

When there was no cheaters in a match it was the best game ive ever played in my life. I just can't explain how amazing it is without the cheaters. The gun play was amazing. If there were no cheaters and they came out with updates faster and they listen to their community this game wouldve been one of the biggest games ever.

Generic looter shooter with zero character or passion, not surprised

The original game was dope. It was nearly perfect. It never made sense to me that they would break apart the community that had found it in order to recreate the game. All they had to do was build out more maps of the planet. The decision to scrap what was good for a game that could extract more money from players was predictably too grubby for the universe to tolerate. Too many devs and execs in that company were unenlightened, was the problem. Greed and lack of discernment killed what might have even rivaled Fortnite. Lol. Predictable, I suppose.

Gunplay was bad, gear level balance was ultra shitty and the gameplay loop was dull at best. Cool environments but execution felt about 10 years out of date imo. Not that much fun here. Absolutely hated it after beta 2 where I realised nothing rubbish was going to get fixed!

J'ai arrêté d'y jouer parce que se casser le cul a farm, pour tout perdre a cause d'un wipe c'est chiant. Mais je suis revenu jouer, en me disant tu vas apprendre a accepter de tout perdre, c'est le jeu, et là a chaque game c'est des cheateurs qui te prenais tous...
Alors encore une fois j'ai désinstaller ce jeu. Et là ce mois j'ai voulus une nouvelle fois revenir dans cet univers que j'aime bien, et les serveurs fermes... Allez, c'est pas faute d'avoir essayer de te faire une place dans mon cœur cycle frontier, ça semblais tellement facile de t'aimer. Mais tu finiras enterré à coté de dust 514. Avec de bon souvenirs malgré la frustrations qu'apporte ces jeux qui n'ont pas eu assez de temps et porté par une trop petite équipe pour survivre.

Il est peut être temps d’arrêter de donner son temps a des jeux uniquement en ligne qui deviennent obligatoirement un souvenir au bout du compte. Je vais ressortir la ps2 et moh soleil levant, au moins un souvenir qui n'est pas enterré.

Maybe Yager is developing the cycle 2 releasing q1/2024 as full priced game with all the fixes and changes the game needs

The reason why they’re shutting down the game is because of cheaters. They’ve literally announced that this is the reason why they have to shut down the game because there is way too many cheaters in the game and they already said on their next game if there is a lot of cheaters, they are done making video games multiplayer. They are only going to make single player games going forward if people keep cheating, and other game companies are starting to say the same thing now so all these cheaters out there are ruining it for everyone and it’s pretty sad that you guys have to cheat to win on a game in the first place

I’m my opinion this game has so much potential that the devs aren’t using. They could definitely come back to this project in the future and have great success but only if they balanced it out and fixed the problems with it.

I might be a minority but I actually really really enjoyed the original BR. A PvEvP battle royale was so much more fun for me compared to other BR's. The gunplay still felt clunky but I think it was one of the best if not the best variation of the battle royale genre I've seen. I know they were just chasing the trend which really couldn't sustain any levels of success. But I was so sad to see them pivot to a style of game that I absolutely despise. Not surprising it died though, the only reason Tarkov works is because of the intense tech behind it and the amount of iterating its been through. It's like trying to make a new tac-shooter as an indie dev team, there's already better out there and you don't have the finances to even make a product that can truly compete. Sad to see it go but not surprised in the slightest.

It was such a good game at first. I especially liked the fact that the learning curve was less intense than Tarkov and I could casually log on and have fun.

I only played this because @FRANKIEonPC and @sadaplays gave it a go a few years back when the game was in its vanilla state. I actually liked it more then, then I do now. It's just not that enjoyable as it originally was.

I used to love this game when it was in its open beta. It was more fast-paced, and you didn't lose your gear when killed. The game became a lot harder, especially for new players since they could encounter pro players with stronger gears and never get a chance to build a decent equipment to be competitive. I probably had to practice more, but I think if they left the game as it was in the open beta, plus the stunning graphic they made and, why not, with the new picaxe mining system instead of drills, this could have been an incredible game.

I think there was a very short leash here. Remember Cycle: Frontier is already the 2nd iteration of the game as the first one shut down in 2021 to be remade into Frontier. When they did that in October, they refunded ALL purchases made the entire 2021 year as well.
So I agree that 2-3k people is nothing to turn your scoff at but due to the history the game needed to hit a homerun right away. I agree it was shut down too early but there just wasn't enough runway left to get where they needed to anymore.

i miss the game when it first came out. there was nothing quite like defending a train and starting up multiple drills on the side. the devs ruined it

I would even like this game if it was a lot more pve centered game than pvp. make it co op but not against everyone else, idk i love adventure style games and add a lot more cpu enemies like guards in all of the places in the map and sure this would basically be far cry lol but id love it

Yeah, they few fundamental problems with the game never got fixed, so i forgot about it for like a year. Weapon tiers being wayyy too far apart for starters. If you're new and you go 1v1 on someone with purple gear, you have no chance. Cheaters obviously. And loot feeling really difficult to obtain. Once a few got to the top, unless you were squadding with good players, you aren't going to get there.

The devs gave up on this game too early and made poor choices to try and improve the game. Slob nailed in on the head. PvPing solo seemed impossible due to how the weapons and armor work. You we’re guaranteed to lose if you fighting multiple people. The simple remedy would have had game modes for solo, duo, and trio matches.

Honestly, I preferred the old version of the cycle. It was different because it didn't require you to be the last person alive and the variety of objectives was nice. Add on the fact you felt like a badass fending off the creatures and the battery thing really helped. I don't like how they just gave up on the game; I can understand if a project is not going well but is that an excuse to give up when you have a few thousand people that enjoy and love what you're doing. Apparently, for them, it's a yes.

It's crazy to me that they listened to the casuals instead of the playerbase that actually was playing the game for hours on end, to not have wipes anymore. And honestly, no wipes made it even harder for those casuals, no good ''starting point'' when those who have played for a while are already at end game. Very sad

Damn, deadly already pulling out the "I'm not mad, just disappointed" and his kid hasn't even been born yet.

dang been looking for new games to try out and ran into this game, but I guess I'll continue my search now
