Wow! I never knew that even in the 70's no one did anything to protect these women. The one woman had a bruised face and the officer said they had to witness him hitting her? I was in my 20's in the 70's and thankfully never experienced any kind of abuse so wasn't aware of how little support they received.

I don’t think it was wise for Karen Grassle to take on a role like this. She was already so type casted as Caroline Ingalls.

Did Karen always play submissive roles? Little House on the Prärie was a favorite.

Interesting to see Diana Scarwid (Christina Crawford) and Rutyana Alda (Carol Ann) together in another movie about domestic violence.

So many WTF?!! Moments. I grew up with my dad hitting my mom he was an abusive drinker (and had changed quite a bit) and it just seemed like no one did anything. My grandparents knew, neighbors knew and im sure teachers knew amd this was maybe 18 years ago. My mom and us kids we were just stuck. When my sister started working she told my mom to leave my dad and she'll provide for us, but my mom said she couldnt leave like staying with my dad was her cross to bear.

Abuse happens in all classes of our society, but a divorce is not that easy. The film ends at this point. The divorce, the custody fight starts at and it is another nightmare, specially if the wife has no money. There comes harassment, some men even beat there wife’s on street…! So the movie to me was not showing the whole battle to get divorced. I also was missing that guy who beat his wife to dead, goes to prison…

I love these old movies I was 14 when this one came out. Watched it then and now. Good acting all around.

Yes, this definitely had triggers for me. My husband didn't start beating on me untill I got pregnant with our first and only child. It continued untill one night he slapped the bottle out of her mouth. I never believed in blind rage until that night. Don't remember what happened but when I realized I was on top of him with a broken broom handle. He was missing teeth and had a broken nose I was still in a rage. Took him to the hospital Both of us were black and blue . Back then there was no DV unless the person wanted to press charges. On the way home I told him to sleep with one eye open and if he ever raised his hand to me or my Daughter again, I'd kill him. Next day he moved back with his parents and I filed for divorce. Haven't seen him since and still single to this day.

Some men are very clever how they treat you.Their public persona is very different from their private one. So be careful and see the dark side with an open eye..

I am glad more men are speaking about abuse. Man or woman no one has the right to have you living in fear.

I can relate to this movie of being a product of my family.Also, a survivor battered women out of a domestic violence relationship with 2 sons and a daughter.Praise God for surviving to see another day of life and breath.Yrs later a holine counselor wanted me to potray my part in my movie and do a fundraiser for National Collision at a theater and believe or not and I did with God's intervention.

For a TV movie from 1978 this is pretty harrowing. The brighter the picture, the darker the negative indeed.

Father of My kids beat me twice.I was done!He always treat me badly after the divorce. Yet 2 more wives and longtime girlfriend he never laid a hand on them. The first he never apologized we never spoke of it.9 months pregnant he went out cheated came home beat me.that was the end.he verbally abuse me every chance he got .right before he died I told him Boy you goin die knowing I'm the mother of your only kids . Hope you suffer.

The worse of this ,is this follows the kids till adulthood then they need therapy, its a vicious cycle .....

When someone is abusing you, can you honestly say you love a person
who hurts you? Do you even like an abusive person who brow beats you
and guilt trips you for having a mind of their own? If you are not living with a reasonable human being...What do you do? Surviving is daunting.

Good movie..very well played..If a man laid a hand on me and béat me he would be beaten Black and blue and dead maybe..i had Abusive relationships but never béaten.The only one who Will béat me isnt born...sorry..

It's hard to see Mike Farrell playing the role of a wife beater. His looks and demeanor suggest someone you'd run to and not from.

A leopard doesn't change their spots leave but be careful.

Most of the time kids will side with the abusive parent I have seen kids support the abusive parent I have seen kids support their fathers after they kill their mothers case in point Dirk Greineder kids supported their dad after he abused her for years and finally killed her they sat in court and cried claiming his innocence, If a woman is abused it trickles down to the kids, the abuser is normally the bread winner a narcissist a high profile person with the most sense. They have a great way of manipulating their children the other parent is unstable of course but they are from years of abuse. This is not healthy these women need non judgemental support.

I would never waste my life on a man. I am so grateful to be living in a country that ALLOWS that. Women all over many parts of the world have no choice.

The only thing that's concerned me is that the young black wife negotiated with her abusive husband and him promising " if I ever beat YOU AGAIN " I'll move out " why the hell should any abusers get the chance to do it again or continue?

I remember hearing about my great grandma and great aunties being abused. Then I remember seeing my mother go thru the same thing when I was a child. I promised myself that I would never go thru the same thing. I promised myself my daughter would know that it is unacceptable for a man to put his hands on her.

This movie disgust me. If that's the way they use to treat women and children being abused. Its getting me so upset.

Two words attention span! No wonder us born in the 80's pay better attention. The movies took time to build up. 😂

These days you abuse someome and they might just kill you. Glad things have evened out a bit
