What is America even like?
ОтветитьThe thing about walking around at night is that you're a bloke
Pete. Very little happens to blokes at night. It's a little different as a woman. I am an ex baker and at midnight it was the most unsafe I ever felt at work in the SE suburbs in Melbourne. We had druggies pull up and do deals infront of our shop, lots of drunks in the area...it REALLY depends on that one.
Melb seems to be not as safe as before, as the gov has opened its door to those fake refugees. Plus, teenagers has become another poisonous ingredient to this country same as marinara. Still love Melbourne, and wish those good days can be back, which is impossible. 😂
ОтветитьWhen I visited Oz a few years ago (mostly coastal NSW & QLD) i was surprised that there was no drinking container deposit & refund program in place. Seeing drink bottles in the trash bothered me knowing they were headed to a landfill.
I could have used an explanation of how to use one of those public BBQs! I saw them, but with nothing similar in my experience, I didn't know how to use one!
I loved Oz, the people I met were friendly and fun, and they taught me a whole new vocabulary of Aussie English!
Oh dear 😅. Comparing all coffee in America to Starbucks is like comparing all our food to McDonald's! We have much better coffee houses and roasters than the chains my dude.

Ответить@AussieEnglish ome of my first cars was $1000 it was a old Toyota camry cant remember what year but had wind up windows and a tape deck amd this was like 10 years ago i brought it
ОтветитьThese items could be shocking if you were born and lived your entire life in a cave. Or in the US.
8-9 out of these are absolutely normal in Hungary and in most of Europe.
I'm also Brazilian and I do relate to all the things you've mentioned. I've always wanted to visit Australia. It's such a dream to me. Great video mate!
ОтветитьI'm Brazilian, and we are ceazy about coffee.
Are you from South Brazil? People from this part of Brazil drink less coffee.
The consuption of "spacial coffee" here in Brazil is rising fast.
Fortunately, in my state there aren't starbucks. A franchise American doesn't have any chance here.
Independent butchers & meat markets ask for a rump roast. That is your Pecunia!
We are chilled ppl. Unfortunately we do take alot for granted
Its called Council Cleanup where you put your junk on the nature strip (council owned patch of grass). I noticed this is 3 years ago - mass changes today in Australia, less unlocked anything thanks to housing crisis, inflation and interest rates at astronomical high. Brazil has to be one of the most likely p[laces to be murdered on the planet so of course your wife would be shocked.
ОтветитьI'm from Germany. The meat and the public barbecues are very different.
Ответитьto keep in mind...thanks a lot ¡¡¡¡
ОтветитьOn the "leaving your car unlocked" thing - bear in mind that although not regularly enforced, it's illegal to leave you car unlocked (if you are more than 3 metres from it) in QLD, NSW and VIC (not sure about other states and can't be arsed looking it up). The fine varies, but it's not incredibly high. I just don't do it though. When I park, it's 1. Put it in 'park' 2. Handbrake on 3. Retract side mirrors 4. Put window(s) up 5. Turn off engine 6. Get out (obviously) 7. Lock car. And this applies ANYWHERE - even Ocean Grove 😉
ОтветитьThank God! Australia has TP!!
ОтветитьDo they have Brisket?
ОтветитьWhat about vegemite? Really culture shock 😅
ОтветитьThat’s a very narrow and inaccurate view of Australia. There are a heck of a lot of places where cars and doors must be locked and windows and doors have bars on them. I could mention cities and towns across the country that are like that with an ever increasing crime rate. Plus, I wouldn’t go advertising your neighbourhood on social media as a place where things aren’t locked. Asking for trouble. And, on top of that, a significant number of places you can’t drink from the tap (bore water across the artesian basin for instance), and remote communities where there is no access to safe drinking water. So, sad to say, your description of Australia is very insular and inaccurate.
ОтветитьI've back and forth from UK ro Australia (and back again) and the most noticeable difference apart from the one's covered off here is that in Australia people will talk to you fairly randomly. Waiting for a bus, standing in line, collecting a parcel - these are all opportunities to engage your fellow citizens in some discussion - of the weather, footy, terrible pollies (politicians), scandals, the state of the world etc. There is literally no deference or standing on ceremony. And woe betide the stranger who answers the random question "how's your day going?" with a shrug or puzzled expression - you do actually need a little "yarn" or "banter" with your barista, shop assistant etc. It's all part of the fun!
ОтветитьAmericans have their way of doing things.Yeah they do like making sure you are able to speak English instead of only German today.I know the facts make your coffee a little bit bitter but that’s the way we like it.😊
ОтветитьAs an Australian I am often shocked at our complicity in being treated like sheep by our state.
ОтветитьWhen we first moved from the UK to Brisbane we were delighted to see the cleanliness of the suburbs and the immaculate nature strips- maintained by the council. Then we moved to Melbourne where the councils charge shocking rates, graffiti covers every fence and nature strips are residents’responsibilty. I remember the first time I saw a parcel left outside a house, I thought the postie must be lazy- in England it might get stolen.
ОтветитьLove to be in Australia
ОтветитьAlways makes me smile hearing you say, "Ing-gwish" 🥰
ОтветитьCultural shock (probably just Melbourne instead of Australian):
- All the hydration fountains in Melbourne (free drinking water? what?)
- Water must be provided for free where you serve alcohol
- Banks close early
- Powered campsites
- Beef pho is really good here
- There are competitions for 'Victorian Sponge'?
- Medicare and super
- Smoking (I think I'm the one who get culture shock when I travel overseas now)
- etc...
Its no really good thing that you go walking around Melbourne at night or anywhere with your attention distracted by listening to headphones. Really bad advice since at least one recent murder in Melbourne was of some poor young woman walking at night, in Melbourne listening to her headphones.
ОтветитьBacon here in Aus (and also in Europe) uses a healthier, less fatty part of the pig than the bacon in the USA.
ОтветитьMate, I can almost guarantee you’ve never left the safety of you’re community near Melbourne. Not locking you’re house or car, walking through streets and parks at midnight. Try that in the others states and see how well that goes
ОтветитьI sometimes forget locking my car here in Australia, I know I should but still felling safe if to compare with Houston TX from where I came here 4 -5 years ago
ОтветитьPicanha is easy to obtain if you know your farmers' market beef producer or live near a Latin or Brazilian deli.
ОтветитьI've lived around southern California my whole life and I'm 32 this year, so I've seen some quirky things and colourful characters around, but nothing prepared me for australia the sheer amount of dudes wandering around shirtless. Even in LA, it kind of makes you double-take to see a guy walking around without a shirt on and you're not at the beach. We're squeamish Americans, you just don't wander around the cities shirtless unless there's something "wrong" with you.
(disclaimer, I put "wrong" in quotation marks bc I think the stigma and attitude of "if you're not wearing a shirt you're mentally unwell" is weird as hell. I just worry about skin cancer bc lbr some of the guys I saw looked like baked lobsters, but if that's their prerogative I'm not gonna judge.)
I have heard many people are shocked when they see Australian's walk around in swimwear or no shoes.
ОтветитьI am a smoker and hate seeing smoke butts on the ground. I carry a smoke pouch that you put you butts in and close the lid. When you see a bin or get home, I empty in the bin. My kids and I carry gloves and pick up any rubbish we see on the beaches, parks, camping, our street, and anywhere else we go. It isn't that hard to pit your rubbish in a bin or take it home and bin it.
ОтветитьDrinking water out of the tap in Mauritius isn't a thing. But it is in Germany.
ОтветитьThe walking at night thing is also because you're a man. As a woman, even in the CBD, I wouldn't do that. It's not safe.
I also wouldn't ever leave anything unlocked because I used to live in Logan. That's the best way to get robbed.
Littering is making a comeback in my opinion, alas, the main offenders from what I see appear to be young school age people :(
ОтветитьNo littering in Australia!? Lmao I come from Asia and it was even a shock for me that littering is even seen more often than many of Asian cities. Plus most toilets in SEA don't look like what's in the video. So this video's title should be Weird things "in a Brazilian's eyes" to avoid any confusion. Or else there's gonna be lots of research to do
ОтветитьGreat list! Such an amazing country. The second-hand stuff is my favourite!
ОтветитьYou lost me at flouride for our teeth.
ОтветитьHahaha ! I would not do it , walk my dog at 7 pm to 6 am unless you have a death wish , at least here in the US. Too overcrowded. Too many homelessness . Too many guns . Too many house invaders esp. daytime , when they think homeowners are at work. . I’ve been here about 30 years in the US . I fear for my life on a daily basis. From buying food to shopping or just going to a bar to have fun . Even when you’re relaxing at you house , you have to be aware about your surroundings, , I have to put all 4 corners , a camera running 24/7, IN MY House , But of course , that’s the negative part, there far more positive things living in he US , what about you , would you live in the US?
ОтветитьWe're visiting my parents for the long weekend here in NSW. I locked the front and back doors of the house... but not the laundry door 😂 because why bother?
ОтветитьI can't stand it when renters dump old worn out furniture and other rubbish on the nature strip. Wake up to yourselves!
ОтветитьI agree with everything except for leaving things unlocked
ОтветитьI live in a Australia every country has different cultures, doesn't mean Australia is weird 😊
ОтветитьVery helpful and interesting. Thank you.😊
ОтветитьIs Australia really as insect infested as they say? Am I likely to get bitten by a snake or spider in my sleep? It will they be in my house under tiles or carpets or whatever waiting for me to sleep?
ОтветитьIn America Mexican imagrants don't always learn fast to flush toilet paper it's hilarious cuz they leave piles of it next to the toilets. I've even seen signs in public restrooms saying you must flush your used toilet paper 💩🗞️😂😂
