18-20 inch piece of dowling (hardwood if possible). Know for a fact its effective but, as you like to stress, gotta practice your strategy.
ОтветитьI personally have 2 hatchets
(Edit: one for throwing and one for swinging, i say one for throwing because one is a throwing hatchet, and the other one is for splitting) things)
Blackjack on my table
ОтветитьSaving up for a gun, but for now i have a lovely one handed axe. Steel, handmade by a friend of mine. Just long enough to create distance in an open space (living room or bedroom for example) if necessary, but not so long that i cant choke up a little and bring my swings closer. It doesnt have an edge on it, but its more or less like a little bronze age kinda axe, if i hit you with it, bone is SHATTERING. Skin an clothing could very well tear as well. If i caught someone in the head or collarbone... dang man. I need to actually TRAIN more with it, but im at least fairly confident i could use it if I had to.
ОтветитьBeware of the slipper
ОтветитьSo sad and pathetic to see so many white men afraid of the world. So much for so called alpha little boys.
ОтветитьThoughts:
- Wouldn't most home intruders intent on theft come armed and/or in groups. How many people can defend themselves in this case without a gun?
- If someone comes alone and it is an abuse/rape instance it would typically be a man against a woman. How many women would be able to physically fight a man without a lot of practice? Their best bet would be a gun, since it allows them to defend at a distance.
- Multiple intruders and multiple family members you need to be able to quickly drive them out of the house, since most younger people will not be able to appropriately fight off an intruder, so again a gun is the best option.
- 99.99% of us are not John or Jane Wick, so any gun better have multiple rounds due to us missing most of the time in a panic situation. Any situation with multiple armed intruders and you best have more than just 10 rounds...
We have been lulled into a sense of security over the last couple generations, but throughout history if you didn't have a strong support unit/family you often became a victim. In today's society that is often looking the other way in many criminal cases and the isolation of individuals from families it creates opportunities for criminals.
If criminals are not afraid of the punishment, then they are more likely to commit crimes.
Man had lots of ways to harm each other before the invention of guns, so we need to deal with the mentality of the individual committing the action rather than blame an inanimate object.
I like a golf club
ОтветитьMy take is to have something that can be used as a weapon in every room, as opposed to carrying it with you. I have small, spiked clubs and tactical knives. The clubs are great for defensive wounding, and look very scary (psych factor). If I use a knife, I stab using short, quick jabs. This is all theoretical, as I have never had to test my system.
Ответить3rd best home defense items (1st: gun 2nd: hammer) is having a bunch of easily breakable vases at multiple locations throughout the home for throwing. This is the best because when you throw them they break, and can't be thrown back at you. Plus you can fill them with potting soil and put plants in them which not only look nice and are good for your soul, the soil will add extra weight causing greater impact and making them more likely to break upon impact. And the rest of the time your house guests don't think you're a paranoid violent psycho or at least, not because of the vases.
ОтветитьWhen you throw a hatchet it will spin. Depending upon the distance to the target, it may hit blade first, butt first or end of the handle. Also if it hits something solid without sticking it can bounce back. Also once you throw it, you are unarmed. Grab the handle near the head and you can slash, hit with handle end, slap the flat against the head.
ОтветитьThe baseball by the door is for when you have to grab something and run outside
ОтветитьA true self defense cane
ОтветитьI think pocket knives can be ok in situations where you plan to slash or jab and run. So slashing certain places, leaving the knife in certain spots, and 💨 running for your life to get help. I have carried a pocket knife on walks, or bear mace. But that's iffy in the wind.
I've been sprayed with basic mace before and it's not THAT bad TBH.
Though it wasn't sprayed continuously in my face, it definitely sucked. But I've had a baby and that and a few other injuries have been much worse. I do appreciate the idea that if you get enough continuous spray you can inflame the eyes etc. OfC bear mace is another animal. No pun intended
Fuckin' leather belt lol. Daddy knew what he was doin' hahahaha
ОтветитьGreat point on the bat. I actually have a kids tee ball scandium bat which I find it perfect.
ОтветитьI’ll stick to the 9mm that stays on my hip
ОтветитьI agree… what if they take it from you.
ОтветитьKatana sword...Good luck trying to grab that of someone. You can keep a distance and jab with it. If they have a knife or hammer you have better range to keep them at distance. its also extremely intimidating
ОтветитьKnife, bat, chair, book, whatever is in arms reach.
ОтветитьHockey stick and fillet knife in sheath in pocket for bear that is invading home. Is what I have now on hand besides gun. You may think a hockey stick but I am very proficient. Gun would be preferred. Spray is not an option. Weapon light is not an option unless I want to loose hunting rights and weapon if taking it outdoors. I have backup lighting if no power. Weapon light is legal on registered ccw here or at range. But not anywhere animals maybe present.
ОтветитьI am biased from my line of work, but I would recommend an 18" length of small diameter (under 2" o.d., ideally 1 1/4" or so) heavy wall ("schedule 40"/.125 wall, or better) galvanized pipe, in terms of theorizing ideal non-gun home defense weapons for a variety of needs, scenarios, and considerations.
If your jurisdiction has liberal home defense/weapon laws, slap some hockey tape around one end for grip and make it more purpose ready. That bad boy will separate intruders from consciousness with ease, not to mention knives from hands, break bones with ease (hand, forearm, ankle, collarbone, etc.), defends better than a blade or bat, is very fast and light (relative to impact it offers) to wield while allowing for a variety of close proximity full strikes with range of motion, as well as tightly confined "snap" strikes that require very little space. The weight of the pipe relative to it's size and distribution really allow for some fun movements, but you can feel the weight of the blow going up even more when you add "oomph".
If you haven't, play around with one!
Kitchen. Balisong. Heavy flashlight. Large dogs. Serrated bread knife.
ОтветитьI have a TAVOR TS12, and several other options, however a CAN OF "WASP NEST SPRAY ", has a good reach and is FLAMMABLE...
I always carry a concealed weapon, however, EVERYTHING I SEE IS A WAEPON ,,EVERYTHING.
Hey Mr. I live in Ecuador South America and I have been in a cojuple of bad cituations and you do not have the time for anything. So be prepared.
Ответитьacross the desk, shotgun, handgun, handgun, spare magazines and more ammo

next room, wood TV tables, 90 pound dog,
next room kitchen, knives, cast iron pans, steel pans, thrown dishes and glassware, pot of hot coffee, hammer in the junk drawer
next, back mudroom, broom, axe, fire tongs, potted plants, wasp spray,

Outside the house, quiet small midwest town where neighbors pick up trash after the trash pickup, people wave to each other, stop and talk to each other, share garden produce, mow each other's lawns when on vacation, bring food when someone is recovering from an operation...
I have plumbed my toilet so the cistern can be rapidly dislodged and used as a weapon. I also have a sharpened toilet brush.
ОтветитьLiving room, a chili spoon will be the first chosen tool followed by the bowl.
ОтветитьIf you get carpenter pants and you wear them all the time because you are a carpenter you put the hammer in your belt loop. I was thinking about getting a hatchet on the left side and keep my knife on my right side. You always want to be swinging something and protecting your facealways good day
ОтветитьI will use my K bar is the US Marine Corps knife it’s always by my bed or unless I’m going out. I’ve done it by my side always good day.
ОтветитьIm a carpenter hahaha….. hammer it is
ОтветитьA 2 sided machete, throwable small axe/tomahawk r best after a firearm.
ОтветитьI'd grab my cutlass. I have one in the living room and one in the bedroom. Cut and thrust weapon purpose built for fighting in close quarters and I do know how to use it. If the intruder has a gun, I'm screwed.
ОтветитьWell I'm In my living room. On the couch. 5'10" 176lbs with very marginal training. More medical training than any combat sport. But some none the less. But I do have a gun on my person rn so. Yeah. My gun. If for some weird reason not my gun than my fixed blade. I know.. if a fight goes to a knife you already fucked up but its better than grabbing the book off my coffee table. If I'm in boxers first thing in the morning? Theres a tire thumper under my couch lol
ОтветитьShort sword (Gladius or Xiphos) combined with a small round shield for me. But I completely see the sense in just a flashlight and a hammer.
ОтветитьSpiked brass knuckles baby! I think I need counseling
Ответитьi think a spear or staff type object even with hallways would be useful for keeping distance
ОтветитьI think it is okay to have them at the doors, but I think those are more for before people are in your home already. but I would suggest having other options that are close to areas you spend the most time in .
Ответитьi put metal staffs beside my entrances and beside my desk. just kinda leaning chilling. then i tend to place some other things like hatchets such in different areas. Ya never know!
Ответитьsword 🗡
ОтветитьI have a sword that is sealed and put up in a safe place can I use it for home self defense if break ins happen
ОтветитьI’m on the toilet in the bathroom, n I’d use my bathroom hi point for self defense
ОтветитьThe knife he showed you can still get it’s a Becker knife Becker bk number somthing I thing 9
ОтветитьThis is clearly a man who knows how to defend himself, and is going to burn is thumb someday picking up a frying pan. Just kidding.
21 in asp would not have the legal problems if used inside your home, and has a larger sweet spot than a hammer, faster swing rate than a cast iron frying pan. Not a bad choice. Gun by bed, asp in living RM, carving knife not chefs knife in kitchen, bat in garage. Once armed, running is still the first choice.
Short spear with a strobe light. Or tactically positioned 2 by 4's that you can dropped into place to barricade interior doors.
ОтветитьHomemade spear or an actual spear if you can afford and is legal to buy. Having a short sword or large knife/dagger is a great sidearm, but having a spear as a primary gives you a lot of benefit:
If the home intruder has a knife himself you now have a massive reach advantage (more so than a sword), so you can stay away from lethal weapons the intruder might carry. With this reach advantage you get more time to react incase the intruder is high or drunk and wants to rush you. The spear is incredible easy to use even for a non trained person. You only really want to do one thing and it is too use the thrust motion repeadtely, it's fast, dangerous, doesn't make you over extend in any way, and because of nature of the thrust motion, it would be difficult for the intruder to gage his distance and timing against you. The thrust motion comes directly at you so for you to tell wether or not the spear is actually moving or not is to see if the spear is getting larger or not, the closer it gets to you the larger it becomes from your pov, and that makes it very difficult to time and space out the spear, it's a very subtle motion.
We all know how dangerous knives are, a spear is basically a knife extended by a lot and replaced with a great thrust advantage.
If you can't buy one or have the proper equipment to make one. Consider buying something like a garden fork, or other farming equipment. Having a trident looking weapon might add some scare factor.
The spear has been the most effective melee weapon on more or less any battlefield throughout all of the middle ages, however it is not a staple of an elite warrior. It was mass produced for lesser skilled, but larger infantry groups.
If you want and can somehow get your hands on it, consider getting a poleaxe. A spear with an added axe or blade at the end, knights used to wield these and duel with them. It should still be used primairly as a spear, but it does give you additional options. You can now cut and chop your opponent if need be. Or, even more difficult to get your hands I bet, a Naginata, the Samurai version of the poleaxe more or less.
If the situation demands it you can throw away your spear and draw your knife if you lost your distance advantage. Always have a backup option.
As a side note, as far as non lethal weapons go to deter attackers, whips hurt like hell and would make anyone reconsider their options when they start to feel that stinging pain.
We can't have guns in the UK for self-defence and we can't have "Self-defence weapons", I wish I could tell you what my go-to is but I don't want to spoil the surprise for anyone who decides they want to hurt my family in my home
ОтветитьMan, I find those videos very interesting, but I can't ignore the fact how outrageous, bizzare, and an overkill this would seem in most countries of the world outside the United States😅 . In the last few countries that I have lived the "home invasion" is not even a scenario to consider, it simply does not exist or is mitigated by the community. Not even mentioning the need for such an extensive weaponry and elaborated concerns.
Perhaps if someone's priority is safety , the best solution is to simply consider living outside US? Places like Singapore, for example, are extremely safe, even multiple places in Europe, you would be suprised for example how super safe is Poland (in stark contrast to UK or France).
