LOTR The Return of the King - Breaking the Gate of Gondor (The Siege of Gondor Part 4)

Imma tell my kids this is what Black Friday at Walmart use to be.

They should have made the fighting
part a bit longer when the orcs, wargs and eastlings come rushing in
after the trolls smashed their through the gate

I love the soldier that spears that orc to ground!!! Great scene

The one thing I admire is that they didn’t try and make any of the soldiers cowardly. That’s a moment where the “Gonna die anyway, might as well die fighting mentality shows. They stood their fucking ground and fought to the very end.

The Easterlings came in hot.

Even Gandalf shits it when he realises what comes through those gates

Imagine being a Gondor soldier during this time

So nobody is going to talk about the 3 easterlings in the back just casually watching the orcs fight

first time i saw this, the armoured trolls charging through the breached gate, it was terrifying, i felt the fear of Gandalf and all of Gondor at that moment single moment

Remember this any time you are facing your inner demons. Whatever comes through the gate of your mind, you will stand your ground!!!!

Personally, I feel like the Gondorians should have been what the Atreides were during the siege of Arrakeen [now I'm talking movie wise here].

The Atreides were a well equipped fighting force that slaughtered many Harkonnen troops, only to be caught off guard when the Sardaukar arrive, and that's what I feel that this battle scene lacked. The Gondorians should have been a well equipped fighting force against Mordor and the Easterlings.

Again, those are just my thoughts.

This the only time they need the 300 Spartans. These shields boys "a wooff". No mercy "a wooff". No prisoners "a woodf".

I never noticed before but you can actually see Easterlings mixed in with the orcs. Thats such a cool detail

Gandalf killed a troll with 1 hit?

I expected the gate to an entire capiral city would be much bigger.

I hate that they nerfed the soldiers of gondor in the peter jackson film thats my only complaint on the films

When your little brother steals your snacks and you and your bestie kick his bedroom door in, only to be greeted by a horde of his own friends.

In the book, it took 3 strikes from Grond empowered by the Witch Kings magic to breach the gate. It couldn't break the gate by itself. The movies do a terrible job of showing how effective Gondorians actually were in combat, mainly due to the fact by the time we saw them fighting on screen it was hours and hours after the beginning of the siege and they were exhausted.

This night battle was so grimy and cool, like the one at Helms Deep.

This scene is basically the first time we see "armoured units" taking point. Aka walking tanks leading the charge. Sauron is basically leading with his "tanks" and letting the infantry mop up.

Gandalf: No matter what comes through the gate you will stand and hold your ground
Me: I would immediately drop down the shield and run to the Shire where I can live in peace to my old age 😅

You know in the books they were able to defend the gate and though they broke it they weren’t able to get very far.

This scene was a great "oh crap" moment, though it is also one of the many scenes that make Gandalf look like a twat for not using some of the magic he used to fight the Balrog, expecting normal men to shoot arrows at and fight in melee with armored ogres when he has several magic abilities that should easily be able to take care of them.

It's your home, you have to protect it! No matter comes through that gate you will stand your ground!

A real shame that we didn't see the Easterlings fight.
They are in the background in a number of shots.

Did i see some easterlings there or did i imagine stuff

Shock Assault trolls are such a good idea

No such war could be waged, today.
Men who CAN perform such duties, are ridiculed, and labeled “toxic.”

I never actually noticed the Easterlings in the Background...

no tactical formation there

Blink and you'll miss them, but you can see the soldiers from Rhûn in the background of the very last scene.

Fall back to the shire lol

i didn't realize the Easterlings were there i saw them at the black gate marching and was wondering where they went for the rest of the film

Can't imagine if this was re shot like in Game of Thrones fashion. Blood and guts EVERYWHERE!! Plus if we include some of the wargs coming in to nom nom nom om nom, the troll splatters.

This reminds me when i played battle for middle earth and when defending Erebor literally 30 of these trolls came at once against me.
