is there a way to fire events from the clients and listen in the server?

Nice tutorial, thanks for share, im wondering if you know any way to do a public channel that can show the users that are connected (logged in) to my app.
i want to get like who is online even if you are a guest you can see who is connected and change it via broadcast, it will be nice to have a tutorial on that
