Yep…just precisely how I imagined Vikings. On a separate note, and I’m admittedly ignorant, it looks to me that they are just flailing swords to put on a show rather than showing killing techniques likely to be used. Just how I see it.

We can see effective spinning attacks in modern MMA fights, there is no time for reaction when the attacker has done a good footwork for setting up such moves.

Love the use of the shield as main equipment instead of the sword. I would also prefer the 🛡️ over the 🗡️.

They fight eastern. Normally you would cut him in the palm if he's hand first.

Don't know about you but those shields are pretty small for a Viking shield. Almost targes or bucklers. This leaves the shield arm elbow, and left flank extremely vulnerable. Comparing the " fighting style" in this video, I much prefer Roland Warzecha's videos, due to the excellent use of footwork, application of technique, and shield use. 10/10 for enthusiasm though.

With real swords it was a lot of more sword skill but similar to this

From what games and movies taught me I would enter combat from being catapulted from afar, land directly in combat, do a summersault and roll on the ground while spinning and swinging my sword wildy..

Hahahaha 🤣 fighting like historic Vikings.... Pretty certain when fighting with a sword you do not aim for the body parts covered in maille, they also did not wear gambesons, leather arm guards or maille covering the face of the spectacled helm.

Now you know why Hollywood does what hollywood does - the real fights actually look pathetic. XD

There is no reason to think they would extend the sword arm without coverage from the shield, Viking swords have small guards and even some of the most well equipped soldiers fought bare handed it’s a no brainer.

I'm no expert but I have questions if it's one on one i get your techniques. but hundreds clashing together? I feel like it would be more take out a guy who is preoccupied and alot of swinning and defending?

No one knows how the Vikings actually fought. Only can guess from the functions of the tools.

Still not realistic at all but better than most movies and tv shows. More of a different kind of TV style combat aiming to look more fast paced and realistic while still not trying to injure your partner; real combat would look VERY different to this as you would never aim a sword slash at chainmail if you were intending to do damage. Swords were more useful against opponents without chainmail as they were faster, more wieldy and could inflict massive damage with the flick of a wrist. However against an armoured opponent you would be aiming for legs, arms, hands and the face or anywhere that was not protected by armour or the enemy's shield.

This is still the worst retroactively invented form of flailing about in lieu of records of combat possible. Whenever they say they are not Hollywood, they already went too far. Hollywood is not wrong to strike the blade qnd shield...and frqnkly no coerography is designed to make it so they are not trying to kill each other, we are just pointing at the screen and saying it is fake. Look up Hurstwic Institute guys...These guys are new school counterdulture, avoiding telegraphs, blocks, and more careful fighting from Liechtenauer's rare mastery and risky techniques, and a modern desire to be so much more "practical"...They forget how to fight.

Any technique is useful and physicallu realistic, making its own martial art and killing someone if the contest and the Almighty decidea it always. So I am not saying what they are doing is wrong...But not how vikings fought according to many, many records, nor even how most knights fought. It is a retroactive application of the Fetchbuchs ro much older and distant periods, stretched beyond contemporary accounts that justify lqrge telegraphed blows, blocking, not just trying ro hit your opponent at risk to ypurself, armor penetration, and other parts of medieval history you can read in many chronicl3s for youself. Check out De Re Militari websitw for primary sources, the Hurstwic Institute for copies of translated partially historical viking sagas for their actual techniques!

i love that these guys keep saying "like hollywood" as if they think the fighting in movies should be realistic and look like two guys flailing and wacking at each other really fast until one gets sliced and you can't even see it. movies are an art and they need to be made in a way that it can translate to the viewer

It's poor practice to just wildly hit each other. The whole point Is to hit them without getting hit. This is where Western reenactment( which is what these guys are) and western hema fighting. There's no defensive strategy. Rack up points in hits and negatives

love the way you portray realistic "actually wanting to win" style combat. Tho i imagine it would actually look more fluent if it were people who trained since they were kids
