... narration could be slightly slower and paused, needs breaths and emphasis - it's so quick, that at some point, one just totally stops listening to you... And that's a real shame, because you do write well.
Just got acquainted with you, dear Film Loner - very good choices!... Thanks! 🙂
I love how you talk about movies like a true cinephile, breaking down every detail—cinematography, music, and all. It's such a vibe!. ❤
ОтветитьWell done on providing a great list. Mine’s not the same - I rated ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ as my #1 of the year, whereas you didn’t feature it at all - but all that you included (that I’ve seen) are very worthy inclusions.
ОтветитьTHE SUBSTANCE es sin duda alguna, la mejor película del año.
ОтветитьMusical hater spotted
ОтветитьThese film makers are Establishment pets. That's why you never get Movies about the deliberate destruction of the West going on all around us.
ОтветитьSex workers- 'harmful stigma'?
So lily Philips is a good thing? Gonna get WAY worse..
My Top Ten of 2024:
10. The Order (8/10)
9. The End (8/10)
8. Dune: Part Two (8/10)
7. History of Souleymane (8/10)
6. Christspiracy (9/10)
5. Oddity (9/10)
4. The Devil’s Bath (9/10)
3. Monkey Man (10/10)
2. Longlegs (10/10)
1. Kinds of Kindness (10/10)
Yet to see: Nosferatu, The Brutalist, Nickel Boys, Sing Sing
2 films that came out this year that are better than all of these :
Sing Sing
Io Capitano
I agree with your list here -- great choices, except for Anora. The "Cinderella meets wealthy suitor/prince trope" has been done to death in so many movies, especially in many independent European and Asian cinema but Hollywood audiences seem to be way behind; this is just a grittier Pretty Woman version which is why it's getting so much buzz. Anora seems dated if we are to consider all other movies before it. Here are some variations of this type of movie:
Pretty Woman (1990)
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Memoirs of a Geisha (2005)
Like Someone in Love (2012)
The Housemaid (2010)
Belle de Jour (1967)
The Lover (1992)
The Girlfriend Experience (2009)
The Duchess (2008)
Cold War (2018)
Madame Bovary (1857)
Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1958)
Anna Karenina (1877)
Lilya 4-Ever (2002)
Morvern Callar (2002)
and yes, Cinderella!
This movie reminds me of how Scorsese adapted the Hong Kong thriller, Infernal Affairs and called it The Departed. It's the same movie, just repackaged for a Hollywood audience.
What makes you think most of these titles won’t show up on the majority of year end lists?? Please😅Anora, Nickle Boys, The Brutalist, Challengers, Sing Sing etc. all solid and obvious picks.
ОтветитьI Saw the TV Glow is terrible.
ОтветитьWow. Thank you very much for this list. I love the way you explain the movies and the way you paired them with the scenes❤
ОтветитьHUNDREDS OF BEAVERS!!! ❤❤❤
ОтветитьDamn.... You need to change the title to "for pretentious film school students"
ОтветитьNo dune part 2? 😢
ОтветитьI don't get why you or anyone else could like Trap.
ОтветитьTrap 😂 You lost all credibility. That film was complete trash
ОтветитьI've watched a few of the best of movie channels and I can't tell you how refreshing it is to see your take on these movies. Your sensitive and loving comments about the directors, the actors and the film makers, brought tears to me eyes. That many of them center on women's lives, so often passed over by other commentators, riveted my attention. Thank you and please keep up the good work!
ОтветитьBy far my favorite list I’ve seen so far. Not because I fully agree with it, but because of your clear passion and solid explanations for each pick. Can’t wait for more of your content
Ответитьthankyou i have to see these films. beautifully described
ОтветитьI nearly stopped watching once I saw you have Trap in your honorable mentions for great films this year. That was, undoubtedly, a top 3 worst film I watched this year. Even with film being subjective, Trap being an absolute dog shit piece of cinema is an objective truth.
Ответить— Anora
— Wicked
— The Wild Robot
— Hundreds of Beavers
— Furiosa
— The Brutalist
— Conclave
— Challengers
— Nosferatu
— The Substance
— Dune Part 2
— My Old Ass
— The Seed of the Sacred Fig
— A Real Pain
— The Count of Monte Cristo
— All We Imagine as Light
The Brutalist is coming out January 24, 2025 :( Know any place where we will be able to see it?
ОтветитьOk you lost me at Trap haha
Ответитьgreat work
ОтветитьNo Look back? You need to get unto peak right NOW!, jk (half jk), really great list! hopefully I might get to watch some of these films in theaters near me soon considering films like these always reach my country after a year or two, although some might not like Here, caught by the tides, all we imagine as light and Planet Janet, but nonetheless I'll keep an eye out for all of them, List like these are always a great reminder of all the things i need to watch but for one reason or a another i just couldnt, dying to watch the brutalist, Queer and Anora during January, also see Look Back if you havent already, no idea if its your thing but it needs to be seen.
ОтветитьMegalopolis a disappointment? It is a modern masterpiece. You should watch it again.
ОтветитьJanet Planet based
ОтветитьI watched Caught by the Tides at Cannes, and I really did not get it, but the way you talk about it, made think about it in a different way, maybe need to watch more filmography from the director. Thanks, keep up the good work, new subscriber.
Ответить2024 was one of the best horror years and overall so many good films. I have seen about 25 films from the year and most have been in the 7-9 range in terms of score so I'm pleased. For horror fans definitely see: omen, late night with the devil, heretic, smile 2, long legs, speak no evil, alien.
ОтветитьGreat list! Missed some animation love, but still very solid!
ОтветитьTimestamps, please 🙏
ОтветитьThis dude is unbelievable ❤
I just don't get the honorable mention to "trap". I found it a really poor and lazy movie with a great premise
Silly request, but what is the song that starts playing during your discussion of Caught by the Tides and continues into your discussion of Bird. It’s really beautiful and would be helpful to have for my film writing.
P.S
This video is fantastic, and having watched a lot of film channels that have disappointed me recently, this channel has been a very pleasant surprise!
I really loved Furiosa, Anora and The Substance this year. Man, oh man, what movies we were treated to..
ОтветитьJust watched "Strange Darling " and i was blown away
ОтветитьAny chance you can add a list of films mentioned in your videos, with your description? I have watched this (and some of your other best of(s) twice and then when I want to watch a film you suggested I can't find the title! Thanks for considering!
ОтветитьLove the queer soundtrack being played while talking about caught by tides
ОтветитьI agree with you on all this but no Dune 2 is crazy.
ОтветитьYou lost me at Trap. Your stock dropped like a rock.
ОтветитьCheck out my latest video for my list of best movies
