Why do they run different types of cars in the same race? Hyper, lmp2, gt. It just seems unsafe.

I'm new to the WEC, can someone explain how many different categories are there in this race?
I see the hypercars and the regular GT cars racing together.
Are they all competing each other as a whole or do they just compete within the same category?

NASCAR died so there are millions of race fans desperate for racing. That’s how I got here!

There’s no cohesion in the broadcast. Announcers talking over each other, desperate to get the right word in. Camera angles missing action. Their commenting on things not happening on screen. It’s a mess. Shame for such a great race but I had to watch it muted after a while. Not as fun!
