Price wise, though this is 5 months later, an Xeon 2697 v3+mainboard+fan+32GB RAM is about half the price of an i3-13100+fan+mainboard+16GB of RAM, so not even getting into the often entirely different use cases there are plenty of people who really have no issues using 50 euro Machinist mainboard. It's a bit apples and pears really.

you can get a used workstation (lenovo P500) for like 200$ with ton of ram and a basic xeon CPU (E3-1620 for exemple), you would just have to maybe upgrade the CPU, maybe the PSU, and get a GPU anyways. Bam full gaming rig at unbeatable price.

E5 2697v3 in my country(philippines) costs $30.
You can always cap the fps to 60 or 120 making the gpu and cpu power consumption reduce to half.
I'm running e5 2640v3 with rx 5500 xt on 200w. I run most of my games on ultra/high 1080 resolution.
60fps is all i need

2697v3 should be used in 10/20 core mode for games, perf should be the same with significantly lower power cons. and still benefit from big shared cache. Please test in this mode as well

I don't mind the cheap xeon + some of the cheap chinese boards. They are what they are. Even though its now cheap, they higher core count xeons that eat a lot of power - IMHO - don't go well with the dubious VRMs I/we face having. Perhaps there are V4 xeons that fair better under power usage and give a slight bump in performance. As you say, its better if you can to buy a modern platform - but still if you are stuck in the ow value area, you can still squeeze something out of a low budget.

At least today we have a low end market again after all the covid pain and high prices.

I have E5 2650v3 for work (multiple VM's running) and some gaming the E5 2697v3 will be a worth upgrade? Here is R$ 66 bucks which is less than a pizza so cost is low but will i notice improvements in gaming like some games, doesn't get solid 60fps for now, with E5 2697v3 do you think will solve this? I like my Frankenstain X99, but it's definitely better to buy a modern platform.

Without a doubt the experience is still worth it, despite the losses, it's still a cpu for the cost that still has a lot of power to become unusable. Thanks for the tips these years on the XEON platform.

Hey Miyconst i hadn’t mention you that i have a dual cpu system (e5 2678v3 TU on HT off) with a 650w psu and 16x4 ddr3 1866 cl10 . Should i be worried about power consumption when pair with a 180-220w card , also should i be worried about pcie 3.0 and 4.0 ( mine have a 3.0 mobo )? As always good video 👍

Benching (cpu z) my 2696 v3 on an unlocked TF brings me always inconsistent scores/results, sometimes 7600 points, other situations 8200 points... why?!

In Brazil, perhaps due to its continental scale, traffic customs are different from one region to another. hi there!!, nice t-shirt (as a polish, i learnt russian in school) i really like your videos. thats bad, that you using high-end video graphics for this comparisions. 2 weeks ago i had a frient at my house and we've tested my xeon e5-2790v2 wth rx590 vs his ryzen2600 with geforce 1660 and i must say that his computer in few titles was almost doubling my frame rate :(

I only play SMITE, I bought a Ryzen 3 5300GE and a B450M Soyo on Aliexpress and I'm happy, it runs with everything on ultra consumption of +-50watts, I retired for sale my Ryzen 5 5600 computer, B550M Soyo, 16GB(2x8)@4000mhz, RX6600M.

Love the Xeon 2697 V3 CPU , blocked at 12 Cores under W11 with msconfig advanced boot on F8 2020 to always run at 3500Mhz , beats my other Xeon 2696 V3 CPU on TF 2021 (Bclk 99.0 Mhz ?!) blocked in same conditions in Games and 3DMark at the end. BTW with top flow NH-C14S double 140mm fan on my other QD4 , 2696 V3 all core and HT ON VRM were at 57° with Prime95 small FFTs , so I think 2697 V3 with a good and silent Top flow there is no issue for the long use and RAM get cold too . All that was possible because of you Miyconst since April 2020 , many many thanks , and BIOS-Engineer too for his Quality Bios 👍

Hi Miyconst! I've purchased a MACHINIST MR9A V1 based on your review and this Xeon 2697 V3 CPU. Now the MR9A has a better VRM then most Chinese X99 but in your estimation how hard would you push it? 14 cores, 18 cores or more even (assuming a good cpu cooler and an well ventilated case)? Thoughts on Xeon V4 how far would you go? Thanks!

I was tempted to buy a x99 mobo/set sometimes but these chinese boards don't appeal to me. The good ones have like 130 euros, i could buy a solid B550 board with less and a cheap used R5 3600 for a budget set.The cheapest x99 mobo atm should be Atermiter D4( trash? ), the HUANANZHI QD4 should be "decent" but for 20 eur more. Results were a bit surprising for some titles, but with the price being so close, the 12100 is the obvious choice. If you play alot of older or indie titles with much worse multi thread usage, the 12100 will be significantly faster.
