Likely story, for most spells require verbal components at certain resonant frequencies, meaning that you don't get a choice - you MUST announce a spell as you cast it, so to speak 🤓

Sorcerer behaviour

That's usually how I, as a DM, cast spells. I tell the party that the mage is doing some magical macarena and they have to deal with it. If they wanna, they can make an Arcana check to see if they recognize it. If they have seen the spell before, I usually tell them though.

my players would counterspell based on the effect i would describe. you wouldnt know what spell it was unless it was already cast or you had some way of spending an action to effectively "translate" the casting before it happens. my players found the change fun but it def gives spellcasters more teeth against the current party
