You could have accomplished the same thing with a projector and safe a ton of money.

Should make sure the TVs have a source of fresh air on the back to allow for ventilation. Electronics that get too hot will cook themselves over time.

This is insanely cool, i hope to do something similar someday! My one question is are you concerned at all about heat dissipation with it being enclosed? I think id be scared the tvs may get hot, overheat or shorten their lifespan, or even burn them out. Thoughts?

live cams across the world. or, weird idea, a live cam pointed back into the room, so it becomes a mirror of sort.

or, go-pro attached to your dog running outside, so you have an encapsulating view of what your dog experiences.

get a rowing machine, and a POV view of athletic rowing practice, and see if you can catch up. In fact... for that idea, what if you attached a speed-of-video feed devies, and as you rowed, the video of POV-rowing sped up -- so the video reacted to your actions.

another idea is to build the same set up on the ceiling and the two adjacent sides of the room, essentially offering a 3D view -- so, you wouldn't just see planet earth in front of you, you could look up and see the moon. could be even more realistic if you, standing in front of the tv, hung a curtain behind you - and had a projection monitor project more video on the curtain - which would be behind you. now you have a fully encapsulating space (well, sans the floor).

Display some footage from a view from actually outside you're house, might make you think you in a different room than the basement,
Maybe even mount a camera outside for live view

Plan is to put a virtual window in the master bathroom to compensate for lack of actual window -- Plan is for 2024 -- the idea is to use an exterior 4K Camera because we have a stunning canyon view all around the house and pipe that in -- at first i was thinking a single 75" now you have me convinced to use 2 and quite possibly 3 if the tile and shower budget doesn't break me. If that is the approach id be appreciative to find which multiplex processor you choose -- i expect the one that went into the toilet is not on eBay now (dont laugh -- a guy i knew dropped his phone in a public latrine .... retrieved it ... cleaned it and SOLD IT ... ewwww)

I am also looking into "what would make the TVs look like real windows" -- your framing is a start (that was in the plan), a sheer curtain as suggested but @spud AND i also think there may be secondary lighting using LEDs and a few other techniques ...

You asked for a suggestion for new videos? How about a long track from a Drone Cam? As i was watching the live scenes on your TVs that popped in -- I find new Drone scenes in many movie to be utterly stunning ... maybe a longer 30-60 minute loop would be great?

and BTW Final Comment .. this isn't really about a virtual window is it? This is tool porn .. lol

Run each screen in portrait surround. Problem solved with viewing any content.

I wonder if TVs simply are too dim (1000 rather than 10000 nits) to create a window at daytime illusion. Probably a better idea with future Micro-LED TVs.

I’d rather use a quality projector tbh, much simpler, cheaper and if I had a huge wall like that it would then also be a movie screen.
