Number 1 is actually wrong. Book Jack is killed right in front of Danny when the entity controlling him makes him bash his face in with the mallet. This is right after he gains a second of control only because of Danny confronting Jack after talking with Tony. So technically Jack was dead before the explosion in the novel.
ОтветитьAll though King's story had only a satisfactory ending, Kubrick's story had Subliminal messages, Eerie environment,Good twist, Brutality, Physcological characters, Theories that are still Not proved, Creepy Characters,Etc.
ОтветитьThe book is more dramatic whereas the movie is scarier
ОтветитьNolan did the same with batman. He made his own version of batman and people liked the movie because of its theatricality not because of the original storyline. Same here with Kubrick's movie.
ОтветитьI am a lifelong King fan. I read him for the first time at 10, when I found a copy of Salems Lot at a garage sale. If he scribbled "Boo!" on a napkin, I'd read it.
That being said, Kubrik treated the story beautifully and respectfully, even though it was different.
By the way, no, Kubrik did not come up with "Here's Johnny!"
That was Jack Nicholson's ad lib, and its really the only thing that truly dates the movie.
Johnny Carson was the long time host of the Tonight Show, and everyone watched him. Unlike hosts of today, everyone loved Carson. You couldn't tell what his politics were, because he got everybody! His humor was witty and not mean spirited.
When Nicholson added the intro to such a contemporary show, it was a brief bit of comic relief.
Regardless of how much that you might prefer the book, you cannot deny that the movie version introduced lots of classic scenes, such as the twins, the blood elevator, the "All work and no play..." papers, and the hedge maze.
Those parts are undeniably classic scenes, whether you like them or not.
I personally enjoy the book more than the movie. The characters are more fleshed out in the book.
ОтветитьTheory: Kubrick's Tony is his Bird.
ОтветитьThe book was SO good
ОтветитьLove The Shining book, HATE the movie!!!
ОтветитьIt's croquet not roquet... plus you pronounced it wrong.
ОтветитьShe started out a wuss but she gets super strong by the end to come back and kicks total ass!!!!
ОтветитьI always thought Shelly Duvall was pretty!
ОтветитьAs usual watchmojo is full of shit he does not arrive to late in the book he decides to not release the boiler pressure
ОтветитьI got to give respect to King for his writing game, but he had some nerve trying to dictate the movie. Kubrick was off the chain and he stands with the great directors so King needs to stay in his own lane
ОтветитьAs far as I know, Stephen King dealt with his own alcohol addiction in The Shining and i can therefore understand that he didn't like Kubrick's adaptation at all. But there are 2 versions of the Shining story in my opinion: The book and Kubrick's version. King's attempt to incorporate the story into the TV series failed utterly. This cheesy, low-budget version was unintentionally funny and more comedy than horror.
King is a great writer but not a filmmaker
For whatever reason, a ton of book fans NEVER understand that some things don’t translate to film well at all and that applies to them as a whole and not just The Shining
Harry Potter fans are the worst about it
It’s this simple
If the overall story isn’t affected by what was cut out or changed, then it wasn’t that important to begin with
i think i have an idea, since i have plans of becoming a cinema director in the future, i can remake the movie, but, i can combine both elements of the book and movie
ОтветитьFor me the book definitely gives more perspective especially to jack's anxiety and his breakdown
ОтветитьI once heard a very clever and smart comeback against King a commentor made saying the fact he thought Kubrick's portrayal of Wendy was misogynistic because in the end, movie Wendy saved her child and herself on her own and won against her abusive husband victoriously while book Wendy was rescued by a male side character in the climax
ОтветитьWendy is strong af. She just doesn't have a bulldozer attitude. She seems meek, mild, long-suffering, maybe even a touch shy. But she handled that shit, just as good as any woman with an attitude could.
Ответитьbest horror film ever made
ОтветитьI disagree with Wendy being a wuss in the movie. She knocks out Jack with a bat, smartly drags and locks him in a pantry.
She helps her son escape the bathroom the she cuts Jacks hand when trapped in the bathroom.
If not for her everyone would have died.
Danny Lloyd absolutely destroys Courtland Mead's acting.
ОтветитьThe older I get, the more horrifying the movie hits. Shelley Duvall is amazing.
ОтветитьThe book is strangely goofy compared to the movie
ОтветитьI think anyone who reads the book before watching the movie would think the movie doesn't do the book justice. And anyone who sees the movie before reading the novel will think the opposite. They're both good, but so very different. It's hard to shake off the impression of whichever you experienced first.
ОтветитьThe room 237 = 2x3x7=42 the number 42 relates to 1942. Years of 2e world war that peak.
Also the overlook party at the end took place on 1921, which 21x2=42
The book and movie had to be different and im glad Kubrick made those changes because it scared me on a different level. King's verison wasnt scary in the slighest and felt more whimsical suspenseful than anything and very low budget. But i think he is a brilliant writer that ever existed
ОтветитьIt must have been strange reading the book when it came out in 1977 & not picturing the Kubrick movie & actors in your mind.
ОтветитьCan you guys do Top 10 Differences Between Stephen King’s It Book and Movie?
ОтветитьThe book is significantly better in my opinion. The movie is still a classic however, and I do enjoy it. The book though, truly chilled me. I was terrified as I read it.
ОтветитьThe hotel managers who were 'afraid that guests wouldn't want to say in actual room 217' were apparently sorely, wincingly ignorant of how real-world hotel guests, moviegoing tourists, and/or indeed just Earth-dwelling human beings in general, actually work. o_0
ОтветитьTotally agree with all of these. Book was fantastic, but I couldn’t imagine how they would make a decent movie out of it. When I first saw the movie, I really hated it. It was just too flat. But I’ve come to really like it. It’s so over the top, just like the rest of Kubrick’s films.
ОтветитьI'm currently reading The Shining for the 3rd time - so I'm super up-to-date on the book! ❤️
ОтветитьJack is a much more tragic and sympathetic character in the book
ОтветитьStanley Q-Brick?
ОтветитьSexy bathtub lady is actually named Ms. Massey.
ОтветитьI feel like movies by Stephen King just lack in realism and simplicity sometimes. Why’s everything gotta be so complicated ya know? I feel like if Kubrick could’ve directed Doctor Sleep we could’ve gotten a better sequel. It’s just too much to take in sometimes
ОтветитьThe book was better jack was main character not wendy.... my gawd the book scared me i saw the movie first
ОтветитьDoctor sleep movie adaptation is related to the shining Kubrick version.. I think the shining Kubrick version is masterpiece
ОтветитьThe book is balanced
The overlook in the book is in my opinion thr most haunted place ever
I have a fan theory that the Overlook Hotel was built on a Thinny. A dimensional portal described in the Dark Tower books as a tear over the Earth and a portal in which living beings or creatures and spirits can cross over into other dimensions. I believe that's where the demon that possessed the Overlook Hotel, the Management, originated and possessed the Overlook Hotel's building. In the Dark Tower books a female character is raped by a demonic elemental and described as a large Manta-Ray shaped entity. The same shape Dick Hallorann saw in the Shining, the novel, when the Hotel exploded as the true form of the Manager/Caretaker. I think the Management was of the same species of demon.
ОтветитьShelley Duval was just Bad Casting! Film would have been so much better with different actress.
ОтветитьKubrick's film doesn't even remotely get close to the love, emotion, and spooky factor found in King's novel.
ОтветитьUh, Kubrick did a favor to the novel.
ОтветитьOne of the few times the movie is better than the book.
ОтветитьKing can't write an ending to save his life.
And the movies almost always end up better than his books.
The Shining. The Green Mile. Shawshank. All better than the book.
Stephen King = Maximum Overdrive = 💩
Stanley Kubric = The Shining 1981 === 🏆
The first has an incredible talent as a writer, the second has an indisputable talent as a director. end of story 😎
