I feel so sorry for those kids and they’re never going to forget having guns drawn at them, but I understand why the police had to. Thank God the officers are trying to be friendly and not needlessly aggressive with them.

I am glad their mother knows where they are. It raises so many difficult issues. If the FLDS obeyed the law (no child labour etc) then here in the UK where a parent leaves a strict but lawful religion usually the courts tend towards maintaining the status quo for the child as that is all the child knows, that is the child's stability and extended family and even if the family is more religious than most people in the UK that is a right to practise that religion. Usually some contact will be required with the other parent. the once you have been somewhere 2 y ears again the status quo is usually what the UK CPS would say should continue which is why it is so very unfair when fathers lose custody in any normal case, children don't see the father for ages because the mother refuses that and then the status quo is the child is used to being with the mother. King Solomon in the Bible had that very good story - that you cannot cut children in half when two people want them. Here in the UK once children are about 13 or 14 we know we cannot really physically lock them up so even if in theory they are supposed to be with one parent but want the other it is very hard to enforce that and the child gets a choice. The younger you leave with children the less likely they will want to go back. This reminds me of that awful Lev Tahor group case in the US where some of the teenagers wanted to go back to the group. I am also reminded of Betty - Carolyn Jessop's girl who escaped with the mother, didn't want to leave and as soon as she was 18 went right back.

I do not understand the mentality of these leaders doing these separations in their groups or other strict rules. You’d think they’d do more positive things to keep people happy with you and the belief system so as not to make resentments, anger, suspicion. Eventually the crowd goes berserk. Complete control and power and fear based.
This is so sad for these boys but as a mother I would want them back no matter how I got them. 😢

Hard to believe this is happening. When you watch a show like sister wives, it desensatizes you to what could be happening right under our noses. You see glimps of the negative, illegal, and manipulation for sure but just hard to see the broad scope of things. 🙏🙏

There's very little police will do when they are labeled a runaway, its a problem nationwide. People have a real false sense of what the police will do for them. Amber Alerts can't be issued because you have to have proof of abduction. Amber Alerts are only issued in the state of disappearance when in reality by the time they are issued (when and if), they could be several states away. Things I would suggest
1. Sew into clothing or hid in the bottom of a shoe a Life360 tag so they can be traced, I wouldnt even let the child know where it was. DO NOT use a Air Tag, the tag will show up on any/all Apple phone users amd they'll know their being tracked.
2. Put up some kind of security cameras even a Ring Camera. It could catch a glimpse of the vehicle, vehicle color, license plate, clothing, hair color and style. It could catch if they went left or right where maybe more traffic cameras were. Every little piece could help. Tail lights even to figure out the year of the vehicle.
3. They make window and door alarms that can be purchased on Amazon. Better to be instantly alerted than 4 hours behind when you notice in the morning.

My heart breaks for the kids and their mom. I hope that they are able to find a path towards healing.

It's all terrible, but one of the most horrific things to me is how the police repeatedly fail these kids. These are not "runaways". There is an established pattern in this religious group and when a child goes missing it should automatically be considered abduction. Why is this specific group of people given such liberties? No other group would be. If these were members of an Islamic sect abducting children it would be all over the news 24/7 and the police wouldn't have the option to just file these cases away under "runaway".
There needs to be systematic change in government, law enforcement and rational members of faith communities to end this travesty.
My thoughts are with the boys and their family members. I hope they get all the support they need to overcome this trauma.

As a former police officer, I can tell you these family situations are heartbreaking for law enforcement to deal with. However, first priority is always officer safety, and unfortunately, it is possible a teenage boy could be armed and brainwashed and scared enough to use a weapon. People who have been taught since birth that the outside world and police are literally of Satan, they can be unpredictable. It just breaks my heart that any child is ever in these situations. It also breaks my heart that a father could be so brainwashed as to put their children into these situations and to hide his children from their own mother as well. I’m so glad these boys were found and have at least a chance to know their mom again.

Thanks for this video. Also saw your video with Mike King and was shocked by the body cam footage. It feels so violent, even for the aunt/grandma. Being held at gun point in your home must be so traumatizing. I can rationalize that law enforcement didn't want to risk being ambushed but still. Don't think they would do things like this in Belgium (my country), even to retrieve kids abducted by family members

I am sure it was scary for the boys with the police breaking in guns drawn; however, after all the police shootings in the last couple years, they don't know what kind of crazy they are walking in on. Not a good situation for any of them.

Your podcasts are shocking and touching at the same time and make me appreciate the spiritual freedom I grew up in with... Or let's say it was easier for me to break out thanks to a more liberal society around me. What baffles me is how limited the human brain to this day is and how worldwide self proclaimed leaders successfully brainwash follow humans with control and power - religiously, spiritually and politically. It's just sickening! Being 27 and not in a cult cops break down the door and point a gun at me I’d be losing my mind for the rest of my life prayers for these kids they need therapy hope the dad gets found and jail time or at least like a protection order for the boys

The mom and grandma prob didn’t realize what they were doing either so prob there worst fear come true as well if you can arrest a lady for letting a significant other abuse your child just because these ladies are religious they either need to be let go and get help or they need to be charged too arrested jail

Some of law enforcement's ways are learned from past raids of different organizations/cults/religions...For example...Waco, remember what happened there...another example...Ruby Ridge, turned into a standoff with people dying...Law enforcement does not want to get caught in a surprise situation with someone pointing a gun at them first...Custody battles can be tricky...

Worked for an LEA, learned about polygamy many years ago. Watched Escaping Polygamy on A and E Network. When cops serve warrants on houses. guns are always out for officer safety, standard protocol. The kids are taught to fear the police, no matter where they are. Remember watching Jeffs get taken in cuffs, being sentenced. These cults will avoid the public whenever possible, glad the missing boys were found.

It’s amazing how a demented psychopath can still control the people around outside prison with his ‘visions’ while still in prison. Fear is his biggest tool to keep people from leaving etc. Bless Sam and Melissa for what they do.
