I'm amongst those that have grown to love the slightly cringy silly writing along with the at times somewhat terrible voice acting haha

And heck kudos for trying something a bit different this time around. If I understood the promo material there will be some kind of in-sandbox rewards (ships?) for completing some of the standalone content, but no matter what I'll give the DLC a try.

X4 is one of my favorite games, just dont see anything like it existing.

Maybe you wouldn't be so negative if you knew about the bonus assets you get unlocked after a mission.

To be honest I though that X4 was just another 4X game, good lord I missed such a gem that would take me out of wanting to play ED.

Will check this out when it drops. X4 has been out for quite some time now and I still play more X3:TC/AP and Litcube's Universe than it. There is something about walking around I find tedious, and the X4 ship designs are so different it throws me off. Hope the new AI improvements help.

I was hoping this was meant to fix the biggest problem for me. I played x2 and x3, (rebirth was garbage). I got 4x the day of released and wasn’t impressed. A lot needed to be fixed. Later they fixed most of it, then a ton of Add ons came out and I’ve tried to play it several times but I was just overwhelmed. No instructions, no idea where to start or what to do, way too many controls with an awkward interface etc. it was just too much to start as a new player. If Ant is right and it STILL doesn’t help you with anything then… I’ll be giving up again, which is a shame because I love these games.

very disappointed in this video. " no tutorial " claim is bs. are tutorials straight from the New Game start menu and have been there for years. the game also offers unlockable ships that you can use in the sandbox all players something to strive for. fine your not big on lore but don't say is not much here. i don't know why the slanted video but your bias against it is clear. i worshiped your ED vids and valued your opinions on other game vids. after today I won't. thumbs down was me.

What if I want to buy the DLC so I can get the DLC ships and whatnot in the Open World game, but I have no intentions of playing the DLC? Would it be possible for me to unlock those ships without playing Timelines?

Even if timelines is not what I expected for another expansion I'll still happily buy it to show Egosoft my support. Plus, the thought of returning retro ships from the older games but brought up to X4's graphics is quite appealing.

They improved the human models ! Now are at least on 2005 level !

There's a tutorial already present - so it's like practice after you do the tutorials. Or... You got a stripped down version as they ironed out kinks.

I do not like games that do excessive amounts of hand holding. I'm an adult I can suss it out for myself and indeed that's where the joy comes from.

Can you play without aliens?

Im planning to buy it and jump in - I tried this once but the complexity overwhelmed me. I enjoyed flying around for a few hours but I didnt understand what I was doing or really engage with the game. This expansion looks petfect for me.

My thought when starting that racing thing was: "DAFUUUUQ? EGOSOFT? ANYONE AT HOME?", nah, I refunded it.

Been enjoying the dlc, I do have a gripe though. It seems like the devs are using AI to voice some of the characters and it sounds fucking awful.

X4 timelines is great to have between the loooooong play sessions. Its nice to have a short racing game to improve your speed racing skills. Its also nice to have something where you can focus on something smaller and then return to the big game and improve there. So yes Timelines fills a function. But my wish is that they did include the storylines of X1, X2 or even X3 into the X4...

X series have been the pivotal title that keep the genre alive back in the spacegame drought of 2000's

The chapters are apart from the main game, ok. But, are there new ships or station modules that can be transferred to the main game?

The golden renaissance for and X series player. v7.0, new DLC (that has some goodies to add to the main game), and the recent excellent Boron DLC.

True, the Timelines missions are all over the place: janky, or frustrating, or push really really hard on the "time limit stress = fun" button (? is it in an X game?), and then some are as good as core/DLC X4. Yes, some of the voice acting, is omg cringe.

Now that I've finished Timelines, I have to say that I haven't been so excited to start a new X game playthrough ever.

My major X4 wishlist item is: capital ship scripting. Watching Coordinated Attack order try to actually to "coordinate" is painful.

If I have to judge this DLC without playing it and using only prior experience of the original story content, it's not gonna be something I want to play.

Timelines supports VR, right ?

For me, X4 Foundations is one of the best Space games of all time. I LOVE IT. I will get the timeline expansion to support the developers. The X4 is really the very best.

I really enjoy the overall large update to the base game but that AI voice acting (and its writing) is just so painful to listen to.

Just purchased the game and I've got to say the Timelines DLC has really put me off, These missions are way too difficult for new players like me and as you pointed out, they don't teach you anything. Just an exercise in frustration.

Is this game basically Mount and Blade on space? I am intrigued..
