iOS 16: How To Create a Custom 'Depth Effect' Lock Screen Wallpaper

My iPhone XS can't

I’m having a problem with my iPhone Lock Screen. The clock used to be coloured white and would still be visible on my bright background, but now it is impossible to see after I tried adding a Duolingo widget to it. I removed the widget but it’s still practically invisible. Is there any way I can make the clock and date stand out while it is still white?

How come I don’t have that option? I’m on iPhone 14 Pro Max

I have multiple wallpapers so it doesn’t give me the option only when to change the wallpaper.

I don’t even have an option for depth effect, I’m on Xr and the only thing it says is see image in library

This is so crazy I found it out today on accident and I had a pic of my car with trees in the backgound and they blended in perfectly I didn’t even have to do anything, does this work with AI or how does it work ?

Note that maybe happens to only me: if you put widgets on ur depth wallpaper the depth will fail so remove the widgets

Very helpful thank you! I couldn’t figure out why some of my custom photos would allow depth effect and others wouldn’t and then you mentioned it has to have an obviously background like not zoomed in and it worked!

Guys If your depth effect button is greyed out don’t worry just remove the widgets and then the button will be accessible and if it’s still not working then it’s just the wallpaper problem 👍🏽

Why depth effect not working on some pics!!

Before panicking about the depth effect not working on your lock screen wallpaper, you should make sure that your iPhone is compatible with this feature. Well, there is no official device compatibility list from Apple, but our testing shows that it supports the iPhone XS and newer models.

Note: On old iPhones, you cannot use the depth effect on captured portrait photos on your iPhone when setting the lock screen. Nonetheless, you can do the same with the pre-installed lock screen wallpapers on iOS 16.

Hey I’m in iPhone 13 pro max and it’s not giving me the depth effect option with any image. The text and gui is there but the actual button is greyed out. Would you know what’s happening?

For your information:
It doesn't work for iPhone 8+ after updating the iOS 16. The wallpaper cannot use a deep effect feature.
This feature required a Face ID.

Showed us how to change the lock screen but not make a photo have Seth effect. I have tons that don’t have it but, have a very distinctive front and no weird background

Only works on newer iphones. Doesnt wok on iPhone X

This must be tied into the ability to copy foreground objects from the background… which my X doesn’t support. Oh well. I’m picking up my 14 Pro on Friday.
