Loved this scene!!

Unlike his 70's movies where he can sing and dance and has awesome hair, in this one he can really really act.

IN MY HOUSE!

Yeah. In this scene he was the perfect fire captain. Company 49 was HIS responsibility and reaming these two a new one is exactly what any good company captain would have done - because he'd be feeling Dennis' loss more acutely than any of them. Dennis was his responsibility, as 49's captain.

John was great in this role. He's come a long way from playing a hitman.

I always loved this scene. John Travolta truly nailed it.

Travolta did a great job here. This seems like a legit conversation after a tragedy has occurred. That simple “do it” at the end was perfect. God bless first responders

I liked how all the firefighters just stood there while the captain was getting on to them.

such an under-rated movie, the anger and the truth that came out when he yelled at them but they all knew he was right

John Travolta is a first class actor and evidently a first class human being as well coz how many times have we heard his name in the news for bad reasons? And it's horrific that he's had to deal with such devastating tragedies in his life: losing his teenage son then his wife...how he keeps going shows how tough he really is.

John made an excellent Captian in this film, how he could crack a joke, or scream to his firefighters and Lieutenant if they lost a man on a call.

This brings back a similar feeling from Backdraft when Tim got burned up!

I’m sure this situation happens all the time when it comes to losing a brother on the force. Everyone in the house feels the loss. But having to move on with the job, they need to honor their fallen brothers, by uniting as one ☝️ not fighting another.

I saw Ladder 49 when it came out and it was the first PG-13 film that I saw in the theater.
