Endfield's Character Writing is Garbage (so far)

Proviso should show up in Endfield only because we should be able to sue the manufacturer of these literal plot gates

I feel so vindicated that others do see how bland Wulfgard (Kagurabachi) actually is. Saw it coming a mile away just from his visual design alone.

Hmm, I'm not really worried, I think what's there is good as a baseline for the writing to be expanded upon in the future. It really does not feel that different to me how early AK files/story were at launch or when it was still in beta. Some ops (actually most) have only started getting explored whenever certain new content around them started and this doesn't feel any different.

I wanted a new Arknights game that would give us an Arknights world to live in. MMORPG or whatever, because I feel like the Visual Novel way the story of Arknights is exposed is really bad and frustrating to read. I think the world of Arknights is quite fascinating and should receive a more in depth adaptation so we could really experience it, but I don't think this is going to be the one. I don't see the elements that make Arknights different from other games here. The tasteful mature anime style of Arknights isn't here, all I see is generic sanitized blobs of anime. The writing being bad? Well, that alone makes having "Arknights" in the name a mistake. I also don't see how the gameplay would be good. I find Arknights the only gacha game that I had the ability to enjoy. Tried all sorts of other games that I would say are in a similar genre to Arknights, like Fate Grand Order, Blue Protocol and such. This game is more similar to the Genshin Impact types, which I played, as well as Tower of Fantasy and then Honkai Star Rail (that one almost worked for me). None of these games worked for me, only Arknights. I just don't want this to be an Arknights thing in name only, I expect this to deserve the Arknights name.

i will be excited for endfield if it measurably improves in any important aspect
the only adequate parts of it are the sound design and visual effects
the final boss is genuinely peak boss design tho but the fact that the whole party is on the field (especially with the far-too-simple-for-that AI) makes several of its attacks a pain in the ass to do anything about and kinda makes it a slog at times

(actual real horrible bad awful huge problems)
- combat systems (just about everything relating to it) could be redone to be much more engaging and unique while also getting rid of most or all of the issues the overly simplistic friendly AI present
- weapons being separate equippable gear not tied to characters is a mistake for multiple reasons and literally copying how characters work in arknights would've been better but that might partly fall under things relating to combat, idk
- base building controls could be...uh...actually put in the game, maybe even optimized for the platform the test was on? and, god forbid, improved substantially on mobile as well? it took me like 3 minutes to think of a way to do the interface for mobile to make it actually usable (and allow full precise control of everything you'd want control over while placing buildings) and for pc we have satisfactory as an example (which is already the thing they were using as inspiration)
- base building progression could be expanded vastly so it stays engaging for a half meaningful amount of time
- the acceptability of the leveling system can't be reasonably evaluated until the game's properly released to some extent and we see how much of anything can be gotten in a given amount of time, but copying genshin's system down to the number of ascensions doesn't make me very hopeful
- a standard gacha stamina system in a vaguely open world rpg-type thing simply does not work, they're foundational components of two entirely different kinds of experience

(slightly more personal nitpicks)
- at least SOME of the menus could've been shuffled around a bit to not look like they were literally genshin screenshots slightly edited in photoshop; genshin menu layout isn't bad but it's also not the only good way to do menus and several elements of arknights led me to believe HG was more creative than that
- the dude that became wulfgard had a fuckin AK (the gun) of some kind in the original CG trailer and while i'm perfectly aware that was a super early teaser type thing, 1. greatswords as a separate weapon class are a bitch to balance (either they're broken or not worth using in any situation) and serve no purpose other than adding bloat and making interesting characters unfun (or making characters must-pull if they're broken) and 2. i was given a glimpse of a reality where the game has an AK (still the gun) in it and i have been robbed of that reality
- the CN test happened right around the time global arknights got lone trail and the way endfield completely and utterly ignores and invalidates everything that happened in lone trail despite being literally the most perfect possible opportunity to give that story an incredible, much farther reaching payoff is nothing short of criminal

in my not-all-that-humble-actually opinion, in its CURRENT STATE as of the tests endfield is a truly cataclysmically disappointing creative travesty that absolutely does not deserve to have the names of hypergryph or arknights even loosely associated with it
to summarize what i mean by that i'll stick in this thing i said to someone during the CN test
"how did we go from arknights
(gameplay that doesn't really have anything you can compare it to)

to endfield
(i'm watching genshin with a satisfactory mod and arknights texture pack, outside of that the only fundamental difference is slightly different combat setup)
like you can compare AK to any tower defense game but you'll have to have like 187 footnotes

i never said completely unplayable, i'm pointing out bad parts; bad games can be playable and even fun, but still bad. i simply feel genuinely immeasurable disappointment
and having said this, if i get any replies to that effect i will proceed to not care at all and ignore them

I also want LoneTrail lvls of peak on day 1 but let them cook for now, Genshin didn't exactly employed the word "Writing" on release TBH and they did great.

Tbh, it's still in alpha not even beta 1, so I have hope for future.

On the one hand, I wouldn't want to play this game if the gameplay sucked, on the other hand, arknights is like top 5 or even top 3 gacha's with good writing, so having this happen isn't a good sign, hopefully they just limited the lore for the test to make sure it was playable.

I 100% agree, i felt like hypergryph would dumb down their story writing and character writing to make endfield more accessible to new fans and watching a full playthrough made me see i was right. This is still a technical test not even an alpha or beta so there will be improvements but as of rn it jus feels like playing as a void of personality

At this point it's just better to admit that HG does not have good writers.
It's bloat and glurge given with such heavy hand.
Mystic entities are added each event with no real sense of interaction or scale.
Mysteries just get piled on like the writers thought LOST was a good show.
Does the setting even make sense that people with rock cancer gets treated like slaves when said rock kinda fuels everything and turn people into wizards?

I don't like Endfields whole idea, even if they fix story. Why you had to make a game with the story happening so far in the future and still have some old characters and factions.

Just having sancta and sarkaz working together in same organisation already might have huge implications. Rhodes Island existing in this game means that we can be sure nothing will ever happen to us in original game. And oripathy hasn't been cured, so we can't expect our characters finding a cure which is our major goal in original game.

Instead they should have rather expanded on existing lore on terra and make a game with reunion members as mc's or rusthammers, inquisition, ursus northern guard, some random adventurers searching for old ruins, artifacts of precursors, aegir, ancient sarkaz. Terra's lore has HUGE potential.

Yet they made Enfield with villains teleporting away after a defeat, with generic asf lines.

Yeah probably arknight:endfield wanted to let you know that games can be too realistic sometimes. I mean of course sometimes a person's life is not as interesting as we imagine :v

Arknights executorfield

Why they didn't just make Arknights Endfield a retelling of Arknights is just baffling to me. They just needed to deepen the character interactions, less text dump lore.

I understand they wanted to make something different maybe? But they had the blueprint with all the characters right there. Do they realize how much they could have made announcing like "Abyssal Hunters banner and Undertides chapter incoming."

They really dropped the ball here.

Besides angelina and ember, i think the rest of cast has a pretty bland character design especially compared to the starting cast of the original arknights. Also not a fan of mc. They look like a 2 star character. If your going to make them faceless at least make them look interesting or unique like the doctor. Its not even beta yet so there is still tons of time to fix things.
