Pixel 6a vs Pixel 6 Pro: Don't Make a Mistake

6a It will make me do what I love, root, stable things, and an improved battery, so why should I pay more?

I think the comparison between 6 pro and standard 7 is more reasonable as nowadays these two phones have the same price tag

TY for this helpful review. I dropped my pixel 4a a few days ago. Needless to say the screen shattered. Before that I've always had Samsung phones. I switched to pixel & I am impressed as well. This definitely helped in the decision making process

It might be worth buying a 6 pro right now if you can get it at a good price..... I just picked one up yesterday for the same price as a 6A because a lot of stores are trying to clear out those pros for the new one coming out!!! I'm loving it so far and don't regret it and I'm also a screen snob so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also, I'm with you, I use zoom way more than wide...especially on the iPhone.

Jon, have been following you for some years now, on technobuffalo, and have always valued your comments and reviews. Your review on the pixel 6A is well balanced. I don't ever seem to have the problems on my phones that others have on their phones. I guess I'm just lucky. What I like about the pixel 6A, is the smaller size, the plastic back ( I always use a case anyway), the durability of the phone, and of course the software and pure android experience. After 3 years of use, my old pixel phone had not shown any decrease in smoothness or speed. It was working just as it did when I purchased it.
Keep doing what you are doing.

I have the pixel 6a and I absolutely love it. I thought I was missing out on all the extras, but I hardly miss them.

I mailed in the old phone, Google shows they received it on 8/4/22. Google has be reviewing it for the month of August. I have called, emailed, done online chat. I have not received any money.
They tell me many people are having the same problem. Do NOT trade in with Google. Sell the phone yourself.

Why is it that no reviewer ever discusses using the phone as... ya know a PHONE? I mean there's never mention of call quality/cellular reception and signal strength performance between phones.

You are not getting 150$ worth of phone with the 6? Umm, higher refresh rate, wireless charging, less plasticky feel, more ram, better camera...

Great review with attention to detail in terms of comparison between 6a and 6. The wrong in Google strategy described very artfully. God knows why they are priced higher in India in comparison to other market.

It is a pity there is no wireless charging. And the second thing is shorter Android support. supposedly only 3 years. Google 6 and 6 pro got 6 years. For these two reasons, I gave up the pixel 6a.

I saw the 6pro in the actual store recently to check out the piece in person. And while just a great beautiful phone and was on top of my list, a MAJOR MAJOR dissatisfaction is the size of that puppy!!! It’s just RIDICULOUSLY tooo big!!!! Is like carrying around an iPad ! Noooo wayyy! Was a deal breaker for me!! What a complete let down!!

What is the physical difference between the QHD and the FHD? Can someone explain this to me? I have the Vivo X60 Pro with FHD and the Oppo Find X2 Pro with QHD but I don't tell the difference between them. And when I put the Oppo Find X2 Pro to FHD I don't tell the difference from it more than when I was using it on QHD. Is it just the feeling that it is there or there's anything different you can tell?

As someone who has had a Google phone for almost 10 years (Nexus 5, Nexus 5X, Pixel 2 XL and Pixel 5) I wouldn't get either one. It's all because of the battery. It's awful. The Tensor chip and Exynos modem are very power inefficient and the batteries are small.

How's the modem on the 6a compared to the 6/6 pro? The pixel 6 I had thru TMobile wasn't great compared to my LG V60 which is a few years old. Does the 6a use the same modem?

I would never buy the A version. Pixel phones have the worst resale value and you can buy used ones so cheap compared to Samsung and Apple.

pixel 6a pictures are more pleasing, and it's way more one-hand friendly.......would only go 6p if I needed the zoom.

I'm with you on the telephoto. It's a game changer for getting great pictures of my kiddos. I hate how expensive the 6 Pro was, but that lens is awesome.

Side note: I originally had the Galaxy S21 Ultra, and the photos from the telephoto lens were hot garbage. I really appreciate that there's not much drop in quality on the 6 Pro when you use the telephoto lens.

I'll be honest. The base software experience in comparison to Nova Launcher is rather trash. The search bar stuck on your screen in a real meh place is unacceptable. Thankfully Nova just let me remove it.

The 4x is the most used zoom for me, and I'm not ready to give up that telephoto anytime soon

Sorry but the Google pixels are a mess they're selfie cameras with a fixed focus unsharp unclear photos that they take down to the charging that takes over 2 hours. I tried the pixel 6 pro and quickly returned it. Connectivity issues are among the top of the list. I'm not afraid to say it the Google pixel 6 or any new phone right now from Google are over hyped.

I had no idea people had issues with the fingerprint reader. I thought and do think it was as fast or faster than the one on the galaxy s21

Speaking of fingerprints, I've had my 6pro less than a year and I have a puncture on top of the fingerprint area. Cannot log into my phone and I need to put the security numbers in.

Have you noticed this defect on the screen?

I respectfully disagree, I still think the regular Pixel 6 is the best deal of the 3 especially since Google was including a pair of free Pixel Buds with it (they were gifting Bose headphones in Europe).

Very polished review but the audio volume is all over the place. Compressor or less directional mic would easily fix this.

I love big phone and lots of zoom. That means I love my 6pro. I hope the 7 has a bigger battery.

Too many times, I’ve wanted to call a toll-free number for info, but have decided to decline, because they can track you by your number… And bug you forever! It would be great if you could figure that one out!

I pre-ordered the pixel6a despite it's expensive in India. So I really want to know.

Since Pixel6a has the same tensor SoC as 6 & 6 Pro, can't Google update the 6a through Software update and enable 90Hrz RR, and increase the charging speed to ~30w ? Technically is it possible?

Is it possible to recover video at 360, 480, 720p as sometimes I need to record video at work, and share w/ others, and 360, 480 is good enough for such purposes ?

From someone who works in wireless get the 6 or 6a. Avoid the 6 Pro. That phone normally arrives dead on arrival with a software bug. Last few that I have sold have come back to be returned cause of software bug, zero cellular connections, or bricked out of the box. They failed so hard with the 6 Pro, but hit their stride with the 6. Now everyone’s experience is different, but that is just mine with working in the actual environment that sees multiple of these devices as part of their job.
