Angel Guts is probably my favorite Xiu Xiu album. Botanica de Los Angeles and Stupid in the Dark are masterpieces. You should know, though, that Bitter Melon isn't about pedophilia. There are plenty of XX songs about that, but this track is about Stewart missing his nephew. He talked about it in his Angel Guts drunk commentary.

They still haven't topped their magnum opus A Promise, something about that rekkerd is just distinctly different and their most impactful one to me.

Technically and production wise Girl With Basket of Fruit is probably their best work, but there’s something about how raw and emotional (maybe even to an uncomfortable degree) A Promise is that makes it my personal favorite. Finding A Promise at one of the lowest points of my life really helped me feel not as crazy for how terrible my mind state was at that time it’s my go to comfort album

Thanks so much for putting this together. You nailed the Xiu Xiu experience for me. My sweet, Kelly Renee Thomas, loved Xiu Xiu and at the time i resented them because i would associate them with her depression and alcoholism. After she passed, i would listen to Xiu Xiu and just cry. Now i listen to them and sometimes cry, sometimes get very angry, sometimes sing along.

What about the merzbow collab?

Always I believe is a big turning point for the band and think begins the new/sort of second era of the band that ended with Dear God.

Thank you for producing this. La Foret was the first album I experienced in 2005 and will forever be special. The material has always felt comforting, especially growing up in and out of foster homes and abuse by my step father. To me, like The Smiths, and Morrissey, Xiu Xiu (Jamie Stewart) has always been there for me when nobody reliable in my life has ever been.

Do you think you'll make a review on ignore grief?

Unlike what you said, according to the credits on rym, there doesn't seem to be any horn-type instruments on the first track of Women as Lovers🤔

This was such a wonderfully constructed video. I have fallen in love with Xiu Xiu in ways I do not know how to put into words and am so glad others feel similar eery and almost indescribable attraction towards their music.

Did you forget unclouded sky?

Xiu xiu is one of those bands that i dont "like", but i do respect them. Ive tried to get into knife play and a promise so many times throughout my life and i just straight up dont enjoy them. And i usually love noisy experimental music. I get that its supposed to be uncomfortable to listen to but holy shit. They are fascinating though and i always appreciate artists willing to make uncompromising art and stick to their unique vision, so theyre still cool af in my book
