Martin is an incredible actor and a very captivating homo sapien.

Martin Sheen had a Leo Dicaprio moment with his hand
He kept shooting the scene just like Leo in Django Unchained during the dinner scene

This is the closest film has ever come to capturing the “shadow”.

The first scene fades in on a line of palm trees, the faint pluckings of the sitar or guitar of The Doors' 'The End,' the napalm. For several moments there, I felt like I had been dropped down into a Vietnamese jungle during the war, in December of '79 (its release). You just feel emersed in it. Then you see a ceiling fan, and Sheen's face looking up at it, and you soon realize you are in a hotel room in Saigon. So this was one of the travesty years of the Academy Awards in my opinion. Its no wonder that actors like Brando and George C. Scott don't like them and such. Apocalypse Now basically got snubbed in terms of what it won. I thought it should have won best picture (All That Jazz comes in second for me) and that Sheen should have at least been nominated -- perhaps winning it. I would have to go back and look at his and Roy Scheider's (All That Jazz) full performances. I liked Kramer vs. Kramer and I like Dustin Hoffman, but I did not think that they out performed these.

I’m glad Martin Sheen was in this movie it quite frankly made this movie just his performance even the voice over jack nicholsan al Pacino and Harvey keitel were supposed to play captain Willard and in my honest option i think jack Nicholson and al are two great actors (I dislike kietel) but it just would not have fit properly martin sheen remains one of the best actors in media solely for that movie apocolypse now is a masterpiece and it wouldn’t of been possible without Sheen

After watching the Apocalypse Now Redux version, there's no going back to the original release. There's not enough meat in the first edition, the Redux offers so much more ''protein.''

That movie was perfection I can’t see anyone playing that role other than Martin sheen it’s his eyes and voice and Francis knew that and that’s why Harvey Keitel was fired

Francis ford took a lot of risks without the fear of failing. He took a chance with Al Pacino’s casting in Godfather despite the resistance from the producers and he took a chance with Martin Sheen in apocalypse now.
And the results speak for themselves!

Martin Sheen didn't even get nominated for the Oscar for his work. One of the greatest injustices in the history of cinema.

now I see full circle all these years later where Charlie Sheen got his insanity from… I thought Martin Sheen was altogether but clearly he had real demons and clearly no clue about his life his sense of being this interview proves it… I know as he got older he seemed to be more together but holy moly talk about what acting for a career can do to you. Charlie Sheen went insane and his father when he was young doesn't seem much better. I would never want to be an actor

In this interview Martin Sheen mentions that he was too old for the role of Williard. It's amazing to me that as closely as I've watched this movie I never noticed that he was too old for the character. His role was so iconic I completely missed that fact.

Apocalypse Now echoes the way Thucydides in The Peloponnesian War makes Pericles sound like Hitler (“It is because your resolution is weak that my policy appears to be mistaken”). In one of the Rambo films, of all things, Richard Crenna tells it like it is to a Russian in Afghanistan. "It’s like us in Vietnam. You shouldn’t be here." In other words, get out.
