Okay, so straight up, I’m about halfway through my AOT rewatch since the finale dropped. I was conflicted on watching the sub or the dub for a couple reasons.

1) I felt like watching the sub would be more natural, mostly because I cannot stand Bryce Papenbrook’s voice for Eren. At this point I’m realizing I didn’t understand Eren as a character because Bryce made him sound way too edgy and kind of like a dork. So the sub wins in that area.

But 2) I wanted to watch the dub strictly for Erwin. Michael Tatum’s delivery is phenomenal and makes me tear up when I watch Erwin’s big emotional speeches and declarations. He truly felt motivational and I was worried the sub wouldn’t hit as hard for me mostly due to the language barrier.

However, the single line that changed everything for me was the final line of his charge. Where in the dub he screams “My soldier push forward, my soldiers scream out, my soldiers rage” and that hits hard from a strictly “hell yeah!” feeling. But in the sub, he says “my soldiers rage, my soldiers scream, my soldiers fight” and that changed the very last conflict I had about watching the sub. The word “tatakae” is said so much more by Eren than I realized and the language barrier makes it hit so much harder when it’s now Erwin being the one screaming it out. All I could see as he was screaming “my soldiers fight” was a monster

This is my favorite scene in the anime and at this point the sub has 100% won me over and makes the story so much more engaging

If they fight or not they eventually died ..most of them so they'd better not give up and fight for the lives of thier camarades this fight in the end leaded to the free life they all wanted

The manga and anime peaked here, this was it. The Marley plot was cool, and was the intention behind the story to begin with, but god damn Jotaro giving a speech about how nihilism is bullshit is absolute peak

It’s the pinnacle of Levi’s story too, especially with his backstory in mind. The survivor. The man who lives when everyone else dies. It’s who he’s always been, and Erwin is forcing it onto him once again.

In terms of psychology, it may be a good thing that Erwin died and Armin lives. You can’t factor solely on a person’s skill to determine their worth. The fact is, if Erwin survived and they reached the basement, that’s it, Erwin’s done. His entire reason for his fight, his entire reason for taking the pain, for leading countless good men and women to death, was all so he could find out what’s the outside world and how right his father was. After that, the fire that carried him throughout his life is over. I highly doubt he would be able to perform at top efficiency when dealing with Marley.

Armin is crucial because while Eren looks for the ocean, Erwin looks for the truth, Armin sees beyond both of them. He sees the world and all it entails and would push forward for a better tomorrow. Eren is the Will, Mikasa is the Heart, but Armin is the Hope. Paradis Island should not rely on the devil to lead them.
