As far as the music fading to silence issue goes, this is ALSO the case with Rayman 1, fading to silence after a second before going on a loop. And the same is said of the ambience in the game’s levels. Worse is Rayman Redemption didn’t fix the looping soundtrack problem or bother to make extensions of the songs to make them last longer. Something Stewart Copeland did NOT do, but I can forgive him because the songs for the levels last long already. And I think he fixed that music-loop problem when Spyro 2 & 3 were released, though memory may not serve me right in that regard.

I totally agree about the backtracking thing. I do not understand why some games make you do it. It is fine to have the option but do not make it a requirement.

As a Crash bandicoot fan I'd like to explain my HC as what made Crash standout as a character I think it was his lack of dialogue and use of pantamine is what made different because at first glance you'd expect him say a ton cheesy one liner's but that he's mute made him stand from Sonic and Spyro

Upon revisiting the first Spyro game recently, I don't think the problem is the lack of variety in it's tightly designed gameplay loop as much as it's the general lack of tension and release in it's gameplay. The game was clearly designed for newcomers to 3D platforming, and it's focus on exploration means the challenge just comes from figuring out the basic controls and then finding everything in a "One and done" way. Without the extra layer of challenge to keep drawing players back in or encouraging them to revisit the challenges in a level from a different angle, of course it's going to feel monotonous after a while. Once you know what you're doing, Spyro is a very easy game for the most part. Even adding an optional Time Attack on each level would have added so much more "risk=reward" to the gameplay. I've always seen Spyro 1 as being a proto-3D Sonic game, because the game is clearly built around speed and aggressive play, but the problem is that there's no real incentive or reward to finish the game as quickly or skillfully as possible because the majority of the platforming in it is so basic, especially when you compare it to a game like Mario 64 (which has a relaxed learning curve, but trades it off by having some legitimately challenging levels). In fact, if Spyro was specifically built around speedrunning in the same way Classic Sonic is, the admittedly very easy boss fights would have made sense since the point is to beat them as quickly as possible. (That's also part of why the Speedway levels are my favorite parts of the game)

Finally playing the Re-Ignited Trilogy via switch, and while I do agree that the graphics and frame rate could be much better I completely disagree about the changes to the dragons that you free. I feel like their new designs go a long way to helping them stand out, and while I did play the PS1 versions first a few years ago, I didn't actually feel very engaged at all with it's story, but with the re-ignited trilogy, to me atleast, it actually felt like the dragons you freed knew Spyro and had history with him. Which I attribute to the improved voice acting, and graphics for the cutscenes, which obviously are much better than the original, though I do kind of prefer the chunk PS1 models and Spyro's OG voice, though I think that Re-Ignited conveys it's story better. Anyways that tangent aside I do agree with you that they could have done much better in terms of performance especially for the switch version (said version being my only experience with the remake) so far I've noticed some textures look straight up awful and very low-quality, which could have been because I was playing in hand held mode I'm not sure. I just assume it isn't very well optimized for hand held mode since in docked mode its buttery smooth in terms of frame rate, or atleast appeared that way to me, though i must say in hand-held mode its not terrible and usually Id even consider it "great" or atleast near perfect for a game like that on a 'hand-held' but it does dip in frames much more often then I'd prefer.

I will tell you, I remember playing all three of these games when I was a kid I actually made a blister on my hand playing so much on Spyro, the dragon two these games are fantastic, which is why I was so excited when I got older, and I did not have a PlayStation I could just buy the new ones on my computer, which I have played and beaten, and I still play

For me Spyro 1 is the best. It knows exactly what it is good at, and does this. The Platforming and Flight Levels.
I hate the other 2 Games, for beeing so different and interupting you with simple Dialog Scenes over and over again.

The first Game is a simple COllector Game, that shows what it can.

Inconsistent mix of art styles, plastic look of unreal engine, and games are more infantile than they was...you pretty much don't lose anything playing orginals and wahts worst...that redcon big part of series so for me it's a rebreak...also i hate skylanders but try the legend...it's awesome and it is slasher/spectacular fighter...Devil May Cry with spyro?
What can i ask more...But they delivered more and as a fan of dragohearth series i can't be more sattysfy + everything orginal awesomes:)
Also spyro 2 how sucked that he still sucks:)...Mostborring spyro i everplayed from main series

I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be harsh but I really couldn’t sit through this video. I get it, you have a good PC rig and it optimizes the game’s visuals. This isn’t a review of your setup, it’s a review of the game. It’s great that you have a good setup and it’s totally fine that you’re excited about the graphics, but it’s not worth talking about for minutes on end. Maybe it’s because I’m a console gamer but I really don’t care that your version looks like X, Y and Z, I care that the game looks good in general (and even then I don’t really care about visuals that much). It just felt self-congratulatory and smug. Again, it’s not a review of what your PC can do visually, it’s a review of the Spyro 1 remake. I’ll come back to this video another time and listen to your other thoughts on the game, because I thought you started strong by discussing the writing and voice acting, which are universal to the experience of playing the game (ie, everyone will have different thoughts but the content is identical).

Running at different framerates isn't as easy as you make out, and john blow has a good video discussing it. Essentially it comes down to calculus and errors caused by physics in discrete time-steps vs infinitesimals.

There is one other platformer I can think of that has loading tumes as long as Spyro 1 Reignited upon dying, and that’s the Sega Saturn version of Sonic 3D Blast; not sure why when it should probably be way faster to load the same map when it's already in the RAM, but it does, so there's another game that does that.

Stewart Copeland actually played demos of Spyro levels, then composed the music for that level based on what he thought would fit the best, and it's honestly the best way to make atmospheric music, you also should have mentioned how flame attack has been double mapped to both Circle/B and the Right trigger to make it more comfortable to flame while gliding, jumping or charging

I don't know if it's actually been mentioned here, but I believe that what's perceived as loading times between stages on Spyro 1 in Reignited aren't actually loads but travel time. iirc the levels are all loaded in memory thousands of units apart from each other, and I think Spyro actually physically travels between them, maybe to simulate the load times of the original. At least I'm 100% sure this is the case for each HUB world. Going out of bounds shows each one as a sort of bubble. This would explain why Atlas warping has almost no loads. Thought this bit of information would be quite interesting for you and the people watching this video (especially since I believe it's not commonly known to the average person)

maybe i'm in the minority, but i much prefer a solid gameplay loop built around a few core elements and a well-crafted difficulty curve with occasional stage gimmicks to a mishmash of transformations, powerups and minigames of middling quality. like, give me spyro 1 or donkey kong country 1 over the other two, any day
