Hi! PLEASE Read These 3 Things:
1 - If you're upset or frustrated about these changes, please make sure to finish the whole video - it ends on some uplifting stuff that you really need to hear, especially if you've never gotten a job in the animation industry before, or are just starting out.
2 - If you currently have an educational license to Maya for 1-3 years, or whatever you've been using - it's still going to work until it expires! No need to panic. These changes are "effective May 14th 2020" so this applies only to newly created licenses, and you'll deal with it after your current license expires. When that time comes, you can still use Maya on the Indie license or use one of the alternative options.
3 - Cracked or pirated software is ILLEGAL and is NOT a viable alternative solution. As I stated in the video, the entire reason for this change is to reduce the misuse of people abusing Autodesk's licensing system. Obtaining and using the software without the proper licensing is literally the reason we're having this whole change happen, so if you're thinking of going down that path, you are only pushing companies to raise software prices and limit public access - so don't do it. Either validate your student status, pay for a license, or use a free alternative. We will thank you, and so will the developers who want to create affordable alternatives.
Thanks for watching :)
They need to bring in back.
ОтветитьI never use Maya, but I can say that even though I don't use it, I can still learn techniques from Maya users, and I'm still in the process of learning about CG animation, so I believe that even though the workflow might change, the facts and learning curve ISN'T going to change. I learn something new about Blender every time I use it, and it's a good experience for me (even if I have to delete something and start all over again from scratch).
ОтветитьI just started AM and the invoice was enough to get Maya educational access. And it will automatically be approved after uploading it.
ОтветитьUsed to use Max and Maya. Moving on to Blender ✌️
ОтветитьTechno Feudalism. Produce content on their platform while they profit from your work. Yeah, that's crap.
Ответитьwait, indie comes with Arnold?
ОтветитьSurprised you don't make more than 100k after being in this industry for some time
Ответитьthe thing is there are a lot of companies that have their assets in Maya since 2010 or maybe before for older games, so they will not switch, its better to know both or softwares, I use Max, Maya and Blender depending on the project I begin, and I would love to have more disk space in my brain to learn Cinema 4D
Ответитьwait maya was free? crap.
ОтветитьXforce all the way
ОтветитьWhat’s up Wade. I just found your channel. Congrats on your YT success! Good for you and awesome work ethic!
ОтветитьThanks for the info. Just graduated, have been using Maya for 3+ years and my student license expires in January 2023... so your video and the Maya Indie version option is a lifesaver. I tried Blender (Yuck).
ОтветитьAw...
I'll miss Maya. I used to work with this software many years ago, as a game designer, and have actually been using it for personal creative purposes since then. The silly bastards are going to force people AWAY from their software and PROMOTE Blender. People like myself.
I've never worked on Blender, but I've seen some impressive stuff on that FREE software, which is perfect! if you're just a hobbyist.
So. Looking forward to learning a new software!
Bugger that!
Time to get accquainted with Blender!
I have been learning blender, to get into the 3D side of the industry. But a lot of jobs want MAYA experience, For someone who is learning on the side non of these options are viable. No I know I missed out on a version I could have learned on. Le Sigh~
ОтветитьEver heard of blender 3.1! Cycles x is so sick
ОтветитьI'm 17 and I'm in high school, they won't add the classes that I want and so I can't get student access...I love my life, the only thing I have is blender. this video made me angrier
ОтветитьI'd like to say that Unreal Engine 4 and 5 have much better animation flows. Not perfect, but you can animate right within the editor using Sequencer and Control Rig, and you get the added bonus that not only is it free, but that it's rendered real-time. Not perfect, but another alternative to Blender.
ОтветитьThis approach is okay, and the options are okay as well, everyone else, require your student ID, so them having that is okay, and I can see why.
By the end of the day, if I create a software, and I put a price on it, I would like to get paid.
INDIE Maya, is still a very great option for people like us, and since I'm still a student, I'll keep using Maya, but I'll for sure change to INDIE when I'm done, and hey!
Even the INDIE Maya name sounds cool IMO, so no big biggie.
Just a slight shift, and Maya INDIE, is available almost anywhere now, even in North Africa and Middle East.
I love using Arnold for renders and was considering getting Maya indie but paying €360 (Irish maya indie license) a year is not worth it at all. I only use it for personal projects. I get it. They are the main 3D software on animation and so people will pay it. But if you aren’t getting any revenue back ( as I only use maya for personal work only) it’s not worth it.
ОтветитьIs for the price, zbrush is a good price, but maya no
ОтветитьVideo about maya, comments about blender.. classic))
ОтветитьOnly 350 euros a year! Finally I'm gonna move to Maya from blender :D
ОтветитьWhen I found out that Maya no longer offered a free version to everyone, I got a little angry lol. Thanks to that, I’m learning Blender. Your loss Autodesk!
ОтветитьI CANT OPEN MY FILES OR ANYTHING AND IM STILL A STUDENT!!!
ОтветитьWTF!
ОтветитьMaya is free for life
ОтветитьWho care for Maya anyway. Blender is far more better in my experience. Even in my university they stopped teaching that scandalous & money hungry Maya and they Introduced us with Blender which is far more fun and user friendly to use.
ОтветитьI'm happy I'm learning Blender over Maya, I tried to learn Maya/3Ds Max in the 11th and 12th grade but I never got far. Now in my own time, I started using Blender, Maya may have alot of good edges but Blender has a lot of addons which can actually do the exact same thing, granted, some of them may be a purchase but tbh its more worth it to maybe buy a $10/20 addon for a free software than buy a $200+ subscription. Especially if you're gonna use it, and even if you're not using it much, would you rather have $200+ or $10/20 in something you might not use all the time. Sure Maya may be the "industry standard" but they are basically the same, 3d modeling softwares.
ОтветитьI am looking into Maya LT and the Indie License of Maya. I really dont do animations, rendering, just modeling for my work as a freelance artist. To me, those are extra stuff. I know the basics animation, rigging and rendering in Maya, but I am more of a 3D modeler. Would you say I wouldn't be losing out of luck or money if I did either Maya Indie or Maya LT? Either way I will spend money but like I said I am more modeling. Id appreciate feedback. I have been looking in blender and it is interesting. Slowly im learning.
Ответитьeverytime i tried installing autodesk maya as a student, it refuses and would give me an error on the website! it's so frustrating! i tried uninstalling the previous maya softwares on my computer because that's how infuriating it is, and it takes so damn long to uninstall, heck it's so unsuccessful ive given up
ОтветитьIt's practically standard practice for visual artists to use legit software at work that they (or someone) paid a fortune for, and use "free" versions at home. I'm not saying it's right, but it an unspoken given. So....there's that.
Ответитьbefore:
maya: 100% nice
blender: 0%
after
maya: 0%
blender: 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000% nice
I love a life free of FlexLM and License Manager software and support tickets because of problems with licensing failures. I love never talking to a person who is less familiar with the software than I am in tech support.
Blender is ready when your contacts no longer send you .mb files and expect .mb files in return.
The industry is moving to UE5 for most things at the tail end including rendering, and Maya and Blender are just FBX sources for UE these days it seems. If you don't have employers that require it, Blender is most of an entire serviceable pipeline. Man I love the built in compositing and useable Rigify rig that essentially standardizes a space switching IK rig across the entire Blender platform. And the cheap add-ons that really extend the capabilities and close the gaps between Blender and Maya.
Abandon the licensing tyranny of Autodesk :)
I have always used Maya and admittedly bit of a Maya fanboy, right now I'm installing blender...
ОтветитьI paid $216 for 1 month and regret it.. But yes Blender is the future and I don't mind donating $6 every month.
ОтветитьThanks for the info dude! I wish I knew about Maya Indie before! It seems monopolistic of Autodesk to buy every 3d software out there and then change their pricing and terms. :(
ОтветитьC'mon guys lets make Blender community greater and bigger. Let's give 'em a shot! We need to fight against all companies that only concern is get our money.
ОтветитьBest channel ever. Thank you Sir. Seriously, thanks for the great content..
ОтветитьOk, let´s just move to Blender, and that´s it, easy, free and awesome choice.. done. Now let´s wait for super expensive CG schools to update their softwares as well, so we can at least have not to pay for both the expensive software and expensive school tuitions. The time to be a 3D artist/animator without having to sell a house has come :)
ОтветитьI didn't even know maya used to be free
ОтветитьYou can also buy an Indie version of Maya for 280$, pricing differentiate as per demographics...all features are there as they are in full feature version.
ОтветитьSo....... I have the student version it expired 3 weeks ago....
Still works perfectly fine. They sent me an email telling me it was expiring and that was it
Oh my OOD?? I didn't know Maya Indie existed until now, that's AWESOME!!!!
ОтветитьMaya WAS free?
ОтветитьThank you very much for letting me know about the indie license ✌️✌️
ОтветитьI've never heard of Maya indie...and it still seems to be available. And here I was about to start paying a monthly subscription while I worked on personal projects and demos after grad. You good sir just saved me a bundle!
ОтветитьIn my opinion this change is a big problem. If you are a self-taught animator you have no way of accessing Maya to learn their platform. Nuke, Houdini, and a whole other host of software provide non-commercial versions completely for free for anyone who wants to learn. Maya takes years to learn and it is unreasonable to expect someone to pay for a license to learn the software if they aren't able to turn it into a career yet. Basically this move is restricting learning Maya to people who can afford to license it and people who currently attend university. I am 23 and 2 years out of college. I am still learning 3D. I was using Maya student license for a while, but now I use blender because I cannot afford the expense of a Maya license purely for the purpose of learning the software.
I think in the long run this will force more people to move to blender and Maya will eventually lose market share.
So... this is old news but... it sounds like they are trying to push a lot of amateur and small studios over to Blender.
