Windows 11: Make Chrome or Firefox the default browser after Microsoft made it more difficult

Setting Firefox as default isn't hard. Just launch and click "Set as default" since Firefox reverse engineered Edge's function.

Helped me switch my new Dell XPS 15 to Google Chrome. Dislike the other stuff they've been funneling me into. If it's so great I would have went to it in the first place. But I like Google better.

They must have changed it since you made your video because your procedure doesn't work. Just got my computer 6/29/2022 and set edge as default but found I wished I selected chrome.

I see Microsoft is up to its dirty tricks by making it a hassle to remove there shitstain edge from default by going through each single extension whilst compared to windows 10 it was a tap of a button. Microsoft really is becoming the worse as the days go by.

This is interesting. No one seems to know why some versions of Windows 11, although they may have the same build are not functioning the same. I have Windows 11 (both Original OS) and both are 10.02.22000 Build 22000, but on one laptop when you get to the Default Apps setting and select the browser of choice, it then populates the question above all the list of .html, .htm, .pdf, etc and asks, "Make "browser" your default browser" and it has a button that says, "Set Default" and this fixes the issues across the device and for each of those items that you are clicking on. When I logon to my browser via my security software it also launches that selected browser correctly. HOWEVER, on machine #2 with the EXACT SAME OS Version, this is not the case. It does not populate the option. The one with the issue is a brand new machine and it is challenged exactly as what you have illustrated in this video. This is a glitch. This is not the way it was written. If it was both machines (only 4 months apart) would have the same limitations and they do not. The device that I purchased in December has the option, as I have mentioned and the new device, purchased a few days ago does not. It's definitely a glitch unless Microsoft is deliberately creating stagnation and releasing some downloads that are clean and others that they know are corrupted (or different). I would hope the latter is not the case.

What can I do if I want to set jpeg for ex IrfanView but doesnt see "jpeg" extension, in total commander it said no association ( I already set all of the graphical file ext.s to default into the IView) ?

Just download Edge Deflect....choose that as your default web browser and it will change all the settings for you to the browser you have installed

Excellent video, clear and easy to follow. Thanks! Now i can enjoy my new laptop comfortably. Google Chrome was not in the apps list, so i had to open Edge, search for Chrome and download it. Then it showed up in the settings list.
