Thomas Sowell's explanations of African slavery is perfect. Unfortunately, YT doesnt like hard truths. So many Black Americans will never see it, or even accept it.

There is a lot of information about modern day slavery readily available. A lot of it relates to work entrapment, kidnapping, trafficking. Recruitment of domestic labor, even adoption.

9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? This means very few males and possibly females would not be above abusing slaves. i am reminded affluence is a big part of neighbors helping neighbors to keep blacks enslaved. funny how money causes cow towing.

This episode made me feel the horror and suffering of slavery in a way that history class never did. I'm older now, but I think it was the simple details. When I heard that a hole was dug in order to beat a pregnant woman and that the violence of the beating induced labor, I started sobbing.

INSTEAD OF JUST WONDERING THE STREETS -- FOOLISH AND VIOLENT, HARMING EACH OTHER -- NOW HIS LIFE BEGINS [AS A ꓢꙆ ꓥꓦꓰ]. OF COURSE, RACISM EXISTS! ARE WE UNAWARE THAT THERE ARE DIFFERENT RACES? IS IT UNTRUE? WHAT CAN YOU DO -- IT'S TRUE. YES, WE ARE RACISTS -- WE BELIEVE IN RACISM... NATIONS HAVE GENETIC CHARACTERISTICS... I SEE MY ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS GREATER THAN THEIRS."

Christians weren't responsible for persecution. It was the Catholic church. Which by the way persecuted Christians. The Catholic Church is apostate. It belongs to Satan. The rabbit holes you have to go down to come to this conclusion involve many different stories and accountings.

Finally discovering this and making the time to listen to it I find it heartbreaking that as an American this just was never taught to us. And I understand why. I went to many schools across the states, moving frequently in my childhood. Everywhere has different motives for what they teach but at the core there's only one chief principle; America is the Greatest. We can't allow for anything good to be the idea of another nation. It is incredibly sad to learn now, over a decade after graduation, that a little mentioned nation of Haiti had such an immense impact on the world and role in the death of slavery. But no, not in our textbooks. I don't know if other nations are the same and struggle to admit in their childrens' educational textbooks when their nation made mistakes or supported abhorrent practices, but it is so incredibly evident and poorly papered over here.

Odd thought but Mediterranean people particularly males do have G6PD, deficiency which can limit the effects of malaria. So, given the thought of Alexander going into central Africa, maybe malaria wouldn’t have been as devastating as Dan believed in college.

I think it is important to note (and say), that while of course things were very different in any period of the past, and it is meaningless to apply our present day generally accepted morality to past times, it is not the case that the backwards ways of thinking were universal human features. Not all people were equally cruel, in fact many were kind, just as one would find today. It may be very unlikely for a kind person to end up as a captain of a merchant ship, but that does not mean that people who were decent, or people who knew better than the common morality of the time, did not exist. They may have been ignored and written off as idiot dreamers, just as people are today who want to make things better, but it does not mean they did not exist at all in past times, and by denying their existence, one gives far too much leeway to clearly evil acts simply because they took place in history. There's a heck of a lot of raw ugly evil going on right now, today, too, it doesn't mean people in the future should say of us "Times were different, nobody must have know better then for all these wars and horrible things to have been happening."
