Listen, while it is the holiday seasons and all, I do appreciate the be content with what you have motif and that's coming from all kinds of angles - environmental, moral etc. I really really like the part about rekindling your love for a pen, it inspired me. Thank you and have a Merry Christmas!

I'm a collector of vintage housewares and I have to say, good old fashioned books have been an endlessly helpful resource for learning about that. I've learned a lot online as well, but there's something about having a physical book that helps the info stick in my brain. There are tons of books on vintage pens and can often be found secondhand for a good price. So I'd encourage people to not forget about books when learning about anything vintage! :)

You can take the ream of printer paper to a Kinkos or similar and have them 3-hole punch the whole ream for a very small fee.

Hi Brian, I have an idea for a 2025 build project for you that might test your wood and metal working skills, but would actually benefit you with the Q&A videos. The project would be to build a scale model (say no more than 14 inches or so end to end) of a typical fountain pen section, with a pull out nib housing, feed, and nib. I'm envisioning it as a prop so it's easier to show the parts at the business end of a pen, especially showing things like ink channels, fins, and the cartridge punch end of the feed. The nib might be semi flexible plastic to help illustrate tine alignment and adjustment principles. And the whole assembly would simply pull out of the section to show the component parts. Knowing your skills and perfectionism, this stage prop would last for many years, and be helpful to illustrate points when answering viewer questions. Now I'm going to let that idea live in your creative subconscious until you just have to start fiddling about in your workshop to see how it can be done. Bwahaha!

I don't understand wet vs dry inks? I looked on the website but it's not one of the attributes you can filter on. As a novice, how do you know which inks are wet or dry?

"Couple" is exactly 2. If you want to describe 3 or more, that's a "few".

I think it may be a good product if, in collaboration with a manufacturer, GouletPen would offer its own collection of notebooks (kind of a "paper exclusive". Like a Clairefontaine with grid, or a notebook with preprinted pages for ink swatching. And wink wink that would make a great Christmas gift to any pen enthusiast!

I hear a lot about tuning nibs, but is there anything you can do to a feed beside replacing it? I have a pen that has a pretty inconsistent flow no matter what ink or paper I'm using. I've flossed it with brass and the tines look aligned, it's a Visconti Van Gogh.

Nice video. Number stuff: Couple = 2 (Think a married couple. 2 people) Few = 3. Think few is spelled with 3 letters. Several can be 3 or more, usually less than 12, which is a dozen. Many can be a larger amount and may depend on the size of the group. Many in a group of 20 can be 4 - 15, while many in a concert or convention can be 200.

That lavender lemonade is beautiful and has a very Los Angeles Lakers vibe. You should try sending a few to some prominent players on that team : might be some great cheap publicity!

I draw with my fountain pens- I will occasionally write with them but I’m less concerned with that- does anyone know of a good pen with a really nice flex nib- preferably on the cheaper side, under fifty dollars would be ideal- but if you have a favorite that’s above that I’d love to hear that too! That would work well for drawing-
I don’t have many preferences since I only own two right now- but I’ll research any recommendations.

What is Brian's guide for nib chameleons? Either "What nib grind represents the best qualities of or is special to iconic pens?" or "What pen represents the advantages of each nib grind?" For me the best part of fountain pens is the adventure of exploration: different pens, different nibs, different inks and different papers. I now enjoy beginner and mid level steel nibs in a variety of grinds for different uses: EF at work and EDC for cheap paper, F and M for journaling with different shading inks, B for bold headings and signatures, and St for fun. Also I love my new Custom 74 in F. What are some $100+ suggestions for a range of grinds for a growing pen enthusiast to explore?

Hello, I'm completely new to fountain pens and as I've been going down the rabbit hole of fountain pen stuff and trying to decide on something, I have one question I can't find an easy answer to: I know I can just buy a more expensive pen but if I buy a decent yet affordable 1st pen like a TWSBI Diamond 580ALR, is there a Fine gold nib on the market I can just swap out later, if I still like the pen but just want to upgrade the nib? Thank you for any help. ☺

Hi Brian! Don't know how I missed this Q&A last week! One sure way to resurrect interest in a pen is to change the ink. I have a Jinhao 80 that was hard starting and drying out on me all the time, but a dose of Private Reserve Infinity Ink (THANKS to GPC for having it as a free item!) and now it is an EDC! I heartily concur about Richard Binders' site! He also has e-books available about fountain pens that are useful for deeper dives into some brands, as well as his Glossopedia which is also available on his site. Glitter is EVIL! Stuff gets everywhere! Have a great Holiday!

hello Brian! great video again, thank you very much! thanks also for trying to explain that science has its limits regarding to fountain pens: deciding an ink is dry is up to the user! great you made this very clear. however, everybody knows (or do they? ;-)) that, say j herbin lie de thé, is a very dry ink… Answering your question, don't bother to make a sophisticated, useless classification of dry/wet inks on your site. in order to help us in our decision to buy or not you might simply say such & such inks are regarded as dry or wet by most users (example above, lie de thé). VERY happy Christmas & New Year to the Goulet Family. I know for a fact that the sudden departure of our friend Drew was a blast. But you're doing very well. With all my soul, cheers!

Dear Brian, I got a curious nib question: is an architect nib the same as a long sword nib? I came across the brand Hongdian and ordered two fountain pens each with a long sword nib. which kind ob works exactly different to a wide, calligraphy nib. pulling the nib down causes a thin line, pulling it to the side it will cause a wider line. I just love it, changes the whole writing experience for me. So I looked up a few brands and their nibs and just by the looks it seems like an architect one is the same or similar. Can you enlighten me what by definition you guys know as an architect and long sword nib. Thanks a lot. Fran
