I've often wondered why so many Hollywood aliens look so human. Perhaps it's too difficult to imagine such strange beings. If we find aliens that look very humanoid, common design means a common Designer. What works for the Human (i.e.- eyeballs, mouths, noses, skin, and limbs) works for the Vulcan. Aliens produced by mere chance through blind evolutionary processes would think, look and act and communicate very differently. Communication may be very difficult. We haven't even deciphered Dolphin "language", and we definitely can't speak it. Imagine a completely different species with a completely different brain & body composition. The journey to successful communication may prove harder than breaking the speed of light. I think we stand a better chance of visiting Andromeda.

Due to convergent evolution, stuff like legs, eyes, mouths, bones (or something similar), and fins would be a lot more common. I used to think legs were wayy too earth like but it is a basic and common design all over our planet. Maybe the genetics of life out there allow them to evolve or change their forms in mere hours rather than centuries or they might not even evolve at all. Intelligent life could be incredibly tiny as well. Small aliens the size of a penny would be amazed to see the size of humans and same applies to us, there could be a world out there filled with giants. I imagine a starfish like creature that slides across and feeds through pores like plants

I wonder if you could use the clockwork radio principle to power a probe that won’t be needed to be activated for decades, or possibly even longer.

Like a probe sent to Alpha Centauri perhaps, with Solar Radiometers on the probe to both activate the probe as it nears the Solar system its aimed towards, and recharge the clockwork mechanism like a giant self rewinding watch that never stops running.

The electronics would have to be powered like a clockwork radio, negating the need for batteries or Nuclear power, which will degrade over extremely long periods. This is the issue with the voyager probes as they age, despite the fact that the electronics and computers within the probe are functioning perfectly after nearly half a century of constant use.

The probe would have to be large and capable of making independent decisions, which may require a large amount of older hardier computer chips.

You could even go a step further, and have small landers on the larger probe that could be fired and directed towards other planets. They could be hardy probes, with a self contained non rechargeable clockwork power source of their own. Preferably a hardy probe to gather planetary data quickly, similar to the Venetian and Titan probes of the past.

The only issue would be having a secondary rechargeable clockwork mechanism to power the transmitter, which would have to be very powerful for the extremely long distances to earth. Storage of information until broadcast would be vital.

If Spacex can reduce the cost of launches further, perhaps we could have a mother ship probe that could launch smaller satellites like a Clockwork Cassinis, to examine planetary systems and their moons, as well as launch the aforementioned smaller probes.

This is a bit long winded and hypothetical but its worth thinking about,

Reelolian rex (R. rex) are a species of large theropod dinosaur on the planet Reelol. They can grow up to 12 meters (39 ft) long and 3 meters (12 ft) tall. Reelolian rex have 3 or 4 tentacles on the back of their neck used to carry their chicks. Females normaly have 4 while males normaly have 3. Reelolian rex are purple in colour. Their eyes are big and can see animals from far away. Their eyes are normaly brown or blue in colour but can also be green, red, grey, and amber. When extreamly mad most Reelolian rex will have a red stripe appear in their eyes and their tentacles will move around rapidly. Reelolian rex can also make any noise in the universe. They normaly sing low quality meme songs and have rap battels. Reelolian rex also scream loudly at their enemies and have been known to accidently kill small animals be being too loud. They have a bite force strong enough to crush bone a long tongue with sharp backwards pointing teeth to tear flesh of off prey. Reelolian rex mainly eat knife tails, small dragons, sauropods, smaller dinosaurs, ect. They are intelligent being able to make friends and understand human language. Females lay around 12-15 eggs and both parents will defend the nest at all costs only leaving for food and water. The eggs normaly take 40 days to hatch and baby Reelolian rex are called chicks. Reelolian rex can live up to 150 years old but most only live for 120 years due to injuries.

There are 8 planets in our solar system and 200 billion solar system’s in our galaxy. 8×200,000,000,000 is 1,600,000,000,000 planets. 100 billion galaxies in our universe so 100 billion x 1.6 trillion is 160,000,000,000,000,000,000 planets. 160,000,000,000,000,000,000 seconds is eqaul to 5.068 trillion years! Thats 1126 times the age of the earth. Thats how many planets may be out there. Yet people still think we are the only creatures in our universe?
