I was suffering from chronic bronchitis and tried various inhalers from the doctor including steroids which none helped. One day I realized I had not been coughing for a few days, and my cough was gone completely. Turns out, I did a 3 day water fast prior to this. During fasting your body dumps excess water and reduces inflammation. It's a possible coincidence but also very possible that the water fast reduced the inflammation in my lungs. Might be worth trying if all else fails.
